View Full Version : Question recaro signo "expert"?

I had to take my signo apart to wash the cover. So, I uninstalled it without difficulty. Then, today when I tried to reinstall it, I had a TERRIBLE time getting the lower anchors to latch. It took me at least 10 minutes and I broke quite a sweat in 20 degree weather. Is this a common thing or do I need new ones? Or am I just weak? We've only had the seat since October or so and my husband installed it originally and we haven't moved it since.
I plan on calling Recaro, but I thought I would ask here and see if anyone knew what I was talking about.
Also, how do I find a good tech in my area? I checked the list of techs on this site, but there isn't one in my area.

Did you loosen the LATCH straps before reinstalling?

Yes I did. When I spoke to my husband this evening, he said he had the same issue with the original install. (wish he'd mentioned it...)

One of my latch straps is very very difficult to loosen. The other one is just a little difficult. Can you actually SEE the tether anchor of the vehicle ? The first few times I was trying to do it blind and I was missing the anchor. Once I had it visually, it was easy peasy to snap in.
Are you having difficulty actually pushing it on there? When you have it off, and you press the red button, what do you see?

Yes, I was having difficulty actually pushing it onto the bars. I can see the bars in my car quite clearly. But, I just could not get the anchors to latch onto them.
I will check and see what it looks like when I press the red button (I am reluctant to take it off again, given my previous difficulty...)

Just try one. It should absolutely not be that hard.
And also, do you have red button out? Are they facing in the pr oper direction? The little tooth should be opening and clamping OVER the latch anchor, not up. If that makes sense.

Yes, I have the anchors facing the correct way and the correct direction. I have never had this kind of difficulty with any other car seat that we own (Primo Viaggio, EFT, KeyFit, Radian, SafeguardGo) and all but the Evenflo have the same kind of latches.

I would definitely call Recaro (and try not to talk to Gayle ) and tell them what you told us. That you have prior experience with the same type latch clips and it is way too hard.
Many of us have had dealings with Recaro, so let us know if you have any issues. We have names. (And emails, and phone numbers *evil grin*)

I've had the same problem with both my signos. The latch straps are impossibly hard to loosen & yes, it is very difficult to get the latch connector to "latch on".
I should call recaro because I know this is not right, just was lazy BUT I will call tomorrow as well :)

Okay, here's my update!
I called Recaro and explained the problem. They asked me for some info about the car seat (model, serial #, DOM, etc) and they are sending me a brand new car seat and prepaid postage to return my old Signo! Woo hoo!

I wonder if that's also b/c of the recent recall? Do you know if your seat was included in that? Good for them and you, they kill two birds with one stone and you get a brand new seat!

Yeah, new seat is always nice! I don't care if Recaro is killing two birds with one stone. That's just efficiency.
For the record, my Como does not have any problems with the LATCH and attaching to the car anchors. Very easy in fact. Yours sounded defective. A nightmare LATCH is on the SnugRide. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/images/smilies/banghead.gif

I had the same problem with my Signo, also the CPST I went to did. I called Recaro and since the latch does not come off they are sent me a new seat, I got it today:).

My seat did not fall into the recall. I don't remember what the recall was but I do remember that it was completely unrelated to latch issues.
Anyway, I'm just glad they "fixed" the problem with very little hassle on my part.

If you are having problems latching onto the anchors, I would definitely call! I got my new seat yesterday for that exact reason. It was virtually painless. I was really surprised. I was expecting more of a hassle. Hopefully this one will be fine. If not, I'm going to ask for my money back.

That's not right. Definitely call up Recaro.
