Is this true fit in the right position in either of the pictures? In one of the pictures it is more upright and in the other it is more reclined. If the reclined position is correct could I put a pool noodle or towel in the empty space underneath. In this car I don't think I would be able to use it in the more upright position as I can not even touch the harness lever to adjust the straps. It was installed very tight and I love the lock offs. I hope I can use it in one of the cars. It is shown here in a 2003 camry.

Is it for that little bear in the third picture? :love:

The first one seems a little too reclined for a toddler. They dont need to be as reclined as infants do, and actually like sitting upright.

You say that having it more upright, you cant adjust the harness? We dont loosen the harness at all. We unbuckle and buckle up with it tight. Yes, its a little more difficult, but you get used to it. :)

Does your car have a center LATCH position? I am unfamiliar with those cars, but make sure you read the manual. You cant borrow LATCH anchors from the outboard positions, in most cars.

Hi,
Yes its for the little bear. He's almost 9 months old. :)
I'm not sure if I am "borrowing" the latch from the side seats...that is a good question and I will check that out tomorrow. Thank you

Wow, he is one big baby. lol I still think that at 9 mos, he can handle a more upright install. :)

Okay, I searched the forum and found this reply to another one of your threads. http://car-seat.org/showpost.php?p=708446&postcount=5

So, no you cant install it in the center with LATCH.

This is how a back seat with only outboard LATCH will look. Well, sorta. lol The red are the LATCH anchors. See how it only has 4?

If the vehicle did allow center LATCH, aside from stating it on the manual...It would have 6 LATCH anchors. Like this...

P.S. I tried my best with the diagram. lol

It looks too reclined to me in the first picture. That line on the seat is deceiving I think. Any time I've seen it parrallel it has looked way over reclined.

With regards to not being able to reach the harness adjuster, I feel your pain, because that was how mine was when Riley was still rf'ing. However, like mommy2env said, you can just tighten it and then leave it tight. It's actually pretty easy with the continuous harness. The continuous harness means its one loop of harness that goes from one shoulder, under the bum, and up to the other shoulder. So what you do is this:

1. Put child in and tighten harness so that it fits snugly;
2. Take child out and install more upright;
3. Put child back in, BEFORE buckling, pull one side of the harness so you can get the child's arm in (it will shorten the harness on the other side);
4. Pull other side of harness so you can get the other arm in (this will tighten the harness on the first arm);
5. Even out harness as necessary by pulling on each side;
6. Buckle.

Harness should now be at appropriate tightness. When I say "pull one side of harness", you sort of have to pull up and out holding just above the crotch buckle. Darn, hopefully that makes sense. Other people explain it better. Let me know if it doesn't make sense to you. Its sort of tricky, but once you get it, you "get it". We have not had to adjust the harness on ours in a couple of months.

I hope someone with a LATCH manual can correct me if I am wrong... but I think I have read on here that Toyota does not allow outboard borrowing of LATCH anchors. Like in the diagram that mommy2env made.... the anchors are connected by a bar underneith, so borrowing one from each side would make it unstable. I haven't had a Camry for a long time but I know the other Toyota's in my family don't have centre LATCH.

mommy2env... I like your diagram.. makes sense to me!

I'd probably aim for an angle halfway between the two pictures. Side shots of the TF are always a little deceiving in the angle because the interior seated angle doesn't match completely with how the seat looks from the side.

You'll know if it's too upright if you see his chin going straight down towards his chest. If his head just goes to the side when he falls asleep then it's fine. :thumbsup:

He's about 18.5 pounds at 9 months. My 11 year old sister is holding him in the picture so he looks bigger than he is. Okay thanks for the info about the latch in the camry...we had his snugride tethered in my moms car in the center since we took him home from the hospital. It seemed secure to me but I guess I should have had it check out by an expert. I'll definitely do that with the convertible seat.

I'll definitely do that with the convertible seat.I am not sure if you are confusing tethering with the straps for the lower anchors? You can't tether a SnugRide and you can't tether the True Fit when rear-facing. The True Fit can only use the top tether when FORWARD facing. And to clarify, the tether is the black strap that is attached near the top of the seat, on the back, of the True Fit. You will have tether anchors somewhere behind your vehicle headrests to attach the tether strap. And again, only when forward facing for the True Fit.

I agree that the first pic is too reclined for your son's age. If you are having trouble accessing the harness adjuster, try pressing on the top of the release lever (the metal will feel rounded there) rather than trying to reach all the way down and lifting the lever. It takes a little bit of practice, but gets easier over time with this method. You could also try an outboard install. It looks like your outboard seats aren't as flat, so they may give you some more room to get your hand in there. And then you could use the lower anchors if you prefer to install that way (or get a better install that way).
