Here is a comment/review I saw about a snugride:
"this car seat is terrible for the one reason that you have to reach behind the carseat to tighten or loosen the straps. very inconvenient and awkward. there are other graco snugrides that tighten from the front."
Is this true? Are there some snugrides that you can adjust from the front?
Thanks in advance.

Yup, they still make some rear adjust models...usually the ones from discount stores.

Oh gosh, my brain only saw the question mark, not the question, lol. Yeah definitely the vast majority of SR's are front adjust now . (I just assumed you'd be incredulous that any are still rear adjust, I know *I* can't believe they still make those :o)

I probably will shop online--am I to assume that only the seats pictured with the strap hanging down are the front adjustable ones?
Thanks in advance.

You can also check their website for each seat's specs... http://www.gracobaby.com/Catalog/Pages/CarSeat.aspx?catid=10:41||1
Have you considered the Snugride 32/Safeseat1 (same seat, actually)? It's base is SO much easier to install than the regular SR, and the seatback's a little taller so it fits kids up to a year longer.

Actually the pattern Target carries is a rear-adjuster. My sister registered for the travel system thru Target, as she fell in love with the pattern. I tried and tried to talk her out of it, but this being her first child she wanted what she wanted and there was no talking her out of it.

I got my rear-adjust SR from Babies R Us... hardly a discount store...
