I have a 1997 Toyota Corolla. My dd rides in a Britax Frontier. I know that after a certain point it needs to have a top tether. I got the part number and ordered that part, but now I have to figure out how to install it.

I took the car to the dealer and thought I'd just have them install it for me, while they were doing some other service on the car. The tech couldn't find were to put it. He ended up drilling a hole in the middle of the back decking and putting it there. I'm not sure if he installed it correctly, and am a bit concerned about attaching the seat to the tether if it wasn't installed correctly.

Dd right outboard on the passenger side and the tech put the tether anchor in the middle of the back decking. Anyone ever install a tether anchor in a 1997 Corolla? Does this sound like the anchor was installed correctly?

HELP!!!

You need to consult the owner's manual for proper placement.

An outboard seat usually can not use a tether anchor in the center seating position.

A '97 should have predrilled holes (our '94 did IIRC, our mechanic put them in for us). Let me see if I can find my LATCH manual.

At what point do they usually have pre-drilled holes?

My dad has an 88 Corolla and I want to know (if he still has it when we need to move the kids out of their current seats and put them in vests or the 86 Y) how hard it's going to be.

I would check the owner's manual but I don't have one. I bought the car used a few years back and it didn't have a manual.

In lieu of the owner's manual, which is what the LATCH manual indicates should have the instructions for retrofitting and proper usage of tether anchors in most pre-2000 Toyota models, a previous thread has a post with quotes from the manual for a '96 Corolla that might be helpful regarding installing the tether anchor, although I can't say for certain if the '96 and '97 Corolla models are exactly the same:

Ideally it would be really helpful if you could obtain the manual for the '97 Corollas to verify tether anchor placement, perhaps from the Toyota dealership or online through a third party vendor site, or if one happens to be available through eBay motors.
