i bought a britax regent for my daughter & i drive a new dodge durango. you would think it could fit in the 3rd row seat, but when i put it in the 3rd row where my daughter almost always sits, she has no leg room whatsoever.. she has to cross her legs the entire time b/c there is litterally no room to put her legs down. idk how tall she is at the moment, but she's like average height for a 3 yr old & 37 pounds. can anyone recommend anything to fix this? or should i just return it & buy a different carseat? i was thinking the nautilus, but is the base shorter/would there be more room for her legs?

Can you move the 2nd row seat forward and/or the 3rd row backward? Can you adjust the recline on the 2nd row seat a little more forward? Does the Regent's base actually hang off the vehicle seat?

I would think that if your DD doesn't have leg room that neither would an adult or even an older child while that sits back there.

I have both a Nautilus and a Regent, but I don't recall the Nautilus being much shorter than the Regent (if I remember, I can try to measure it for you). Do you have a BRU near you? They sell the Nautilus and will let you take the floor model out to your car to try it before you buy it.

The only problem with the Nautilus is the base tips upward. I found it makes their legs stick out more than the Regent when I tried it for my son.

When you install the Regent, use your knees to push back on the base of it rather than just pushing down. This will give you a more upright install and should give your child more leg room.

I am thinking that there are probably seats that would give more leg room that are not up and forward on a base, right? I am a Britax noob though and I might have my models confused. :o

:yeahthat:

Before you start the install, line the front up the front of the Regent with the front edge of the vehicle seat. Then hold it in that position with your knee/thigh while you complete the installation. Like BookMama said, push BACK while you tighten, then you can push down and tighten.

A lot of times people try to line up the recline bar in a certain position, and that makes the seat hang over the edge. The recline bar will wind up wherever it needs to, so don't worry about that.

Edited to add: Make sure when you're done that the base is sitting flat on the seat. :)

The 3rd row tends to be very narrow in the durango. Remember that 80% of the car seat needs in fit on the vehicle seat.
