Hi there,

We have a Saturn L200 and are having a very difficult time installing our Nautilus car seat (for our 3 1/2 year old) due to the extreme "dip" in the bucket seats. We took it to an "install place" and they had the same issue, but they said that the "wiggle" of the car seat is judged by the amount of wiggle at the anchor point (in the back), not by if you try to wiggle it from the front. If we wiggle from the front to test it seems like it moves quite a bit side to side. At the back it only moves a little.

Has anyone ever experienced this and were we given proper information?

Any replies are much appreciated. We're leaving to go to the snow next week.

You test for movement at the beltpath only. Where the seatbelt or LATCH strap goes through. You're looking for less than 1" of movement side to side or front to back.

Do you have it installed with the lower anchors and tether, or seatbelt and tether? Or just seatbelt, depending on what year your car is? If you're unhappy with the amount of wiggle using one method, if you have the option try the other.

The car is a 2003, and we are using the lower Latch system anchors and the tether. It seems snug at the beltpath less than an intch of movment, but at the front it is moving quite a bit.

Hi, DH and I used to own a 2002 Saturn L100 4-door midsized sedan, very similar to the Saturn L200 mid-sized sedan model, although we didn't have a Nautilus (we replaced the car before the Nautilus was available). I'm not exactly sure what you're describing as scooped out bucket seats, though. Assuming you're talking about the back seat, are you meaning the slightly sloped angle of the vehicle seating surface that slopes a bit toward the vehicle seatback? As Wendy posted earlier, less than 1 inch of movement at the Nautilus' belt path is the goal. That said, one trick that might help snug it up more overall would be to experiment with the recline modes on the Nautilus. IIRC, the Nautilus has several possible recline positions and it might snug up the front portion of the Nautilus on the vehicle seat if it's reclined, or if it's already reclined try less recline. I can't promise that it will help, but it was helpful to have our forward facing Sunshine Kids Radian in recline mode in our L100 to achieve a snugger installation. :twocents:
