We have the opportunity to replace my 2003 Dodge Neon with a 1997 BMW 528i for a very affordable price - basicly we'd break even. Crash test ratings seem to be hard to come by, but it does have side curtains up front, which my Neon does not. I'm not sure that it has latch, which stinks. We have a Graco Nautilus and a RF Britax Roundabout. Does anyone have any experience with them?
Thanks!

I had a 530i or 535i, cant remember. I had a SS1 in the center and it worked great but the center was too small for the RA, like the base sat over one of the seatbelt buckles. I'm trying to remember cause I didnt really use this car with the seats but I think it was possible to install but hard, and it ended up making one of the outboard buckles useless. Also, forget about a tether spot. I didnt really look super super hard but I'd get in there and see if you can find one before buying the car unless you're prepared to go untethered. All BMWs are bad for tethering. Otherwise, I loved the car!

Over the years I have worked with some older BMWs. Beware of installing in outboard positions as the buckle stalk is forward and against the outside wall of the vehicle. This can make for a nightmare!! Try before you buy!!
FYI: LATCH in newer models has fixed this as you don't have to use the seatbelts.

Ditto This.. Dh has a 1990 520 or 528 and I can only get the Apex installed on the passenger side which makes it hard to put the Blvd rear-facing on the drivers side.
I wouldnt worry about the Roundabout. You will get that in. I would worry about the Nautilus though. Try it out before you get it. Try it out on both sides.
I had a 2003 Dodge Neon and miss it. I like the Neon better. We traded it in for a 07 Caravan...

We have a 530xi and I have a roundabout RF in the passenger outboard side and have had our nautilus in the outboard driver side. I had no problem installing either seat. I forget if the roundabout is installed with latch or the seatbelt?!?! The nautilus is installed with the seatbelt.
The center position is impossible to install any seat. The stalk sits funny and the headrest doesn't move so none of the seats I own will fit. I have also put a radian and regent in an outboard position without a problem. Remember it is the 530 so I don't know if thing have changed from the 528 to the 530. Good Luck!

Not much changes in the cars within the same series.
The last 2 number usually denote the engine size.
You may notice some difference in how the car seats install in the leather vs pleather style seats.
I would definitely try it out before you buy. Hope all goes well, I can imagine the ride in the 5 series will be much better than a neon.
