I moved ds ms to the 3rd row in my envoy xl. I had always used latch before because he was rf. He's ff now and there is no latch or tethers in the 3rd row. My question is about the seat belt lock off it's the new small black one is it supposed to dig into the seat belt to keep it locked?? I can't get the belt around it to close it, the only way I can close it is by letting it dig into the seat belt. It is super tight and dosent move more the 1/4 an inch but is that okay to pinch the seatbelt like that???
Also I'm thinking of getting him a gn in a few months because he's ff now, but how do I keep that seatbelt sooo tight without a lockoff?? Any one installed a gn in a third row with a seatbelt??
Thanks you guys are soo helpful!!!

I believe the lockoff is supposed to "dig" into the seatbelt to hold it tight. If your seatbelts lock (I believe they do by pulling them all the way out and letting them slowly back in), you don't need to use a lockoff. It does help get it extra tight, though, I do agree.

Yes my seatbelts lock but I can't get the carseat in tight that way. Is there a trick or anything I don't know about??? I actually put both knees in the seat and pull but still can't get it tight enough to not move.

To get the seatbelt tight, try kneeling on the seat and pulling up next to the buckle at the same time as you pull down next to the retractor. Where are you checking for movement? It needs to move less than 1" in any direction at the beltpath.

As for using the lock-off, it is supposed to dig in. Make sure the shoulder portion is flat and in the slot before you tighten the seatbelt. Once it's tight, line up the knob of the lock-off with about where it will hit the seatbelt when locked. Then rotate the lever and slide them both into position together. Otherwise, the knob tends to stretch the webbing as it digs in. Is that clear? it's kind of hard to describe. :o

Even if you can figure out a tight install with locking the seatbelt, I would still use the lock-off since you don't have TAs in the 3rd row. Few European seats have top tethers, but they do have ff lock-offs. They work somewhat the same as a tether in reducing forward head excursion.

I have installed the GN in my 06 pilot 3rd row seat belt with tether in middle seat and driver side position. I cant install it passenger side because the seat belt gets bunched up in the male part of the seat belt and It moves more then the 1in allowed at the belt path. How I install it is I kneel both my knees in the seat, move the cover out of the way, pull on the seat belt and get out as much slack as I can. I check for movement at the belt path then attatch the tether.
