BRITAX ANNOUNCES VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL
1. Remedy kit will be shipping no later than January 7, 2009 —

CHARLOTTE, NC (December 16, 2008) – Britax Child Safety, Inc. announced today that it is conducting a voluntary safety recall on the Frontier™ combination Harness-2-Booster™ child restraints. The recall includes Frontier child restraints manufactured between June 10, 2008 and September 17, 2008 for Model #s E9L75M6 and E9L75H6.
If the harness straps are repeatedly loosened one strap at a time, then the harness strap(s) may become detached from the metal yoke located on the back of the child seat. If the harness strap(s) becomes loose or detached then the condition can be corrected by inspecting the back of the child seat and reattaching the harness straps. If this condition occurs, the child may not be properly restrained, and in the event of a vehicle crash there could be an increased risk of injury.
To address this issue, Britax will provide two rubber caps that can be easily placed on the yoke slots to prevent the harness straps from detaching. The rubber caps have been specifically designed for the Frontier yoke to provide a secure fit and have been tested to verify their effectiveness.
No later than January 7, 2009, the rubber caps will be mailed with an instruction sheet to all registered Frontier child restraint owners with manufacturing dates prior to September 18, 2008. Additional caps will be made available to retailers with affected inventory of Frontiers manufactured prior to September 18, 2008. All Frontier child restraint owners should confirm whether their Frontier is affected by verifying the date of manufacture. Starting December 16, 2008, further details will be available at www.CanadaFrontierRecall.com.
Until consumers receive their remedy kit, they should confirm that their harness system is properly attached to the metal yoke and they may continue to safely use their child restraint.
Owners of the Frontier child restraint who have not registered their product or need to verify existing registration should contact the Britax information line, toll free at 1-800-683-2045 or visit www.CanadaFrontierRecall.com.

hmm... deja vu? you'd think these companies would learn from each others' mistakes rather than just repeat them.

And here's the text of the CDN recall as well: (I know we don't always put the text of the recall, but figured since the Britax press release was on here I'd include the TC notice as well.)

Issue:
Britax Child Safety, Inc. and Transport Canada wish to inform the public that there is a potential for one side of the shoulder harness to become detached from the yoke on the back of the child/booster seat when loosening the harness to remove a child.

Safety Risk:

Should one side of the shoulder harness become detached and not be detected by the parent, the harness would not securely restrain a child in the child/booster restraint system in the event of a collision. As with all child restraint systems, when buckling up the child, the harness should always be tested for tightness. Any detachment would be obvious at that point in time.

Background and Company Action:

Transport Canada received two complaints concerning this problem. Britax Child Safety Inc has received approximately 34 complaints on general harness problems. When the parents tightened the harness then checked the tightness, it was apparent that one of the shoulder harness straps was loose. Britax Child Safety, Inc was informed of this problem immediately. Effective September 15, 2008 Britax Child Safety, Inc has modified the harness system by stiffening the harness loop that attaches to the yoke, reducing the possibility of detachment.

Britax Child Safety, Inc has successfully developed and tested rubber caps that are to be placed on the end of the metal harness yoke, which will prevent the harness from detaching.
Consumer Recourse:
Britax Child Safety, Inc. will supply the rubber caps free of charge to all registered owners of the Frontier child/booster restraint system. Should a consumer not be registered with the company, the rubber caps will be provided, free of charge, by calling the toll free number (1-888-427-4829).
