Just out of curiosity...I saw someone putting their kiddo in one of those seats with the overhead bar that pulls down. I was under the impression that all those seats would be expired by now:confused: Is it possible that it isn't?

someone can correct me if I am wrong but I was in the states a year or so ago and saw that Target, I think it was, was still selling OHS seats.

Yeah but they have not been sold in Canada for yrs now. I think the last ones I saw would have been around '99-00. Anyone else have some sort of time line for OHS seatsÉ

In 2001 they were still selling OHS, because we looked at them for Greg (before we were given a couple of old seats :o  ). I think they stopped shortly after that. Allport would probably know :)

I think they were manufactured for Canada as late as somewhere between 2002 and 2004, although they were the exception and not common place to find in 2004.

So it's possible it's not expired yet, but more likely that it is.

my neighbour has one..her little girl is 3.5 and she claims that she bought it brand new when she was born :shrug-shoulders: however, she won't let me look at it.

what does OHS stand for?

OHS = overhead shield

My sister had one of those, bought in the late '90s.

My daycare provider has an OHS (FP?) and she claims it expires in 2009. I haven't verified that. I'm trying to convince her to buy a TF to replace it. She's considering having the parents provide their own seats (I already do for my two girls).

In the course I took one of the now "Techs" has a OHS and her daughter is 20months old FFing in it since she was 11months BTW:thumbsdown:. She says she bought it at Costco after/around, when her daughter was born so it can't be too old. I was going to go peak at it but didn't have the chance.

Costco DOM will likely be older, but I can tell you with 100% certainty that the Costco's in Edmonton haven't had any OHS seats in the last 4yrs. My husband works at Costco and he always tell me when car seats come in... add to that that I'm in there too, and that Costco having car seats is usually just an AO or Summit and not something always carried, and I'd be very doubtful that it's recently purchased... there's a little bit of variance in what stores carry, but most stuff is just shipped automatically by head office, so I wouldn't see it as being likely that she got the seat there less than 2yrs ago, and the DOM definitely won't have been recent.

I would think about 2002-2003 when they were last made for Canada. For sure they had them in 2002, since we bought DD's convertible early 2002 and those were available on shelves then. I have not had an unexpired one come into a clinic in a while.

I think the last ones available would have been in 2005 so still good until 2011....

Yeah, me too. Well, I was thinking 2004. I guess count my lucky stars that most I see are expired and it's usually someone bringing it in from a transport agency to see if the seats are still fit for use. I always like that - it's nice to get old seats off the road. :D

What about T-shields? Are they still around and unexpired?

As an aside, a friend of mine just told me she's hoping to adopt a baby and that she's holding on to her carseat just in case. Well her youngest is... 6.5yo! It would be at least year before they would get a baby (they haven't started yet at all) and I highly doubt the seat was new when they used it for their son. Arrrg! guess I know what I'll be getting them as a baby gift!

I'm pretty sure seats with t-shields are all expired. DD was born in 2003 and I don't remember seeing them around at that time. So the latest would be 2002, in which case they'd all be expired by now. But I may be wrong.

Of course, I still see them on a regular basis. Just saw one today, in a lovely mid-90's shiny gray shade.

Yes - the T-shields would all be expired now. But, we still see them.....
