Hello,

My DD is almost 40lbs and it's time for a new car seat. We are looking for a new 5 point harness car seat for her. She is 3.5 years old, 39.8 lbs, 39.5 inches tall and her torso is 15 inches.

We just started researching this week and I have to admit I feel a little overwhelmed. I want the very best for her. I want something that has be side impacted approved. My brother was killed in a side impact car accident and so of course I want my daughter as safe as possible while in the car.

Should we purhcase the Sunshine Kids Radian Premier or the Britax Frontier? If there is another one that I don't know about please let me know. Thank you so much:)

Hi,

The Britax Frontier has True Side Impact Protection head wings, whereas the Radian Premier provides side impact protection by way of EPS foam lining the shell of the seat. I can understand your wanting something with good side impact protection (and I'm sorry for your loss), so I'd probably get a Frontier rather than a Radian. As a bonus, the Frontier also converts to a LATCH'able highback booster seat, the Radian does not.

I would go with the Frontier. I bought one about a month ago for my DD who outgrew her Evenflo Generations by height at only 35 lbs. Its a very heavy, sturdy seat, and I feel like its very safe, its actually bothering me now to have DS sitting beside her in his Generations because I feel like he is less protected because its so much lighter and flimsier than the Frontier (even though I know he is perfectly safe in it!).

Thank you ladies:)

I think I will get the Frontier. Do you guys know if the pink one is available in Canada yet? If so, where?

Thanks again!!!

No pink in Canada.. No red, either... :) I bought a red and a pink US Frontier and swapped the covers on to my Canadian ones. :)

Oh my gosh - the expense to do that. Wow. What did you do with the frontier you bought in the US after?

Sorry - I have one more question. Everywhere I've looked the price seems the same, 299.99. Does anyone have any idea if it ever goes on sale? Thanks again:)

They were on sale a few weeks ago at Dear-Born Baby, buy I don't know when they will be on sale somewhere again. I forgot to mention this before, but I would recommend getting one with a DOM after late September to make sure that it has the new style harness in it, mine was June and I had to call Britax to get the new one, when I buy my second one I am going to make sure it has the new harness in it.

I see they have now issued a recall on the Frontier, so even if you get an older one you will be able to get a fix for it!:)

So as long as it was manufactored in October I should be fine? What does the old and the new harness style look like? I'd like for DH and I to know the difference so we know what we are looking for. Thanks!!!

Passed one on to a local family near the border, and another to a Seattle area tech. :)

Apparently the recall is only in the US right now, but I assume they will do one in Canada too. The new harness has a second row of stitching near the bottom of the loop that attaches to the splitter plate, and I was told by Britax that they started using it in late September. Here is a thread with some pics, but you may have to register to see them.
