Hello,
I am looking for some suggestions as to the best seat to purchase as a spare to keep at home? I don't drive so sometimes get picked up, or in case of emergencies, I would like to keep a seat in the closet for my youngest. She's about 18.5 lbs, 27" or so, at 5.5 months. She has EFTA's in hubby and gma's vehicles. I was thinking maybe a Scenera? Is this easy to install in most cars? What are my options to purchase this inexpensively (ie. anywhere besides Walmart $79?)? Also are there plans to add foam in the near future to the Scenera's? The ones at my local Walmart in BC are just the plastic shell.
Thanks!
Cindy

Hey there, I'm in the same "town" (uhh "Corporation", technically..) as you! Is there a reason that you don't want to get another EFTA to use as a spare seat? Sometimes it's easier when you're getting in and out of unfamiliar vehicles to at least use a seat that you're quite familiar with.

The Scenera is a small, inexpensive yet somewhat uncomfortable seat and it does install decently well in many vehicles.. It can be unpredictable here or there as far as getting a good recline, but overall it's not a bad option for an emergency/backup seat. You'd probably want to keep some pool noodles on hand, though. One thing--if you're going to be using older vehicles at all I would recommend looking into one of the seats that have built-in lockoffs and not at the Scenera.

Do you know which vehicles you're most likely to be transported in?

We have the scenera, it's now our back up seat (and used for my daycare kids) but I've never had trouble installing it in a car with a locking seatbelt. (post 1996) I do use a rolled up towel to make a tight fit. (And find it easier to install on the side than in the middle.)

The cheapest I've seen it is $79 at Walmart (we got ours on sale for $69 last Nov.) and there will be no foam on it. (I think that's why it's so cheap.)

A friend just picked one up on Sunday and they are down to $75 now.

I agree with Nicole... all of it. ;) :)
