View Full Version : Cargo nets?

I have a 2003 Pilot. I often have stuff (groceries, stroller, dogs etc) in the cargo area. I try to keep it all tied down when I can, but would feel better with a barrier also.
I had a cargo net up, but I'm not happy that I can only find pressure mount or velcro mount ones. I found one with super velcro that I couldn't undo, but the adhesive peeled off, rendering it useless. On the tabs that stayed stuck, the adjusting string pulled out. It's wadded up in my basement with the pressure mount bars that the dogs kept knocking over.
I saw one at handa-accessories.com that is neither pressure mount, nor velcro mount, but it clips to the hand rails and plastic cargo hooks.
Is there any hardware mount ones that are good? It would be great if you could install it easily in different positions easily (it would usually be behind the second row, but may need to be moved behind the third row or removed entirely on occasion.) At this point, I don't care if I have to drill holes in my car's interior. DH already did that in the front to install a power inverter for camping.

What do you stick in the nets? The Toyota ones just slip on over hooks and stuff. They've always been fine IMO. Hold tons of heavy groceries just fine. I can't imagine how an adhesive one would hold, but the one using the existing hooks and stuff sound like the Toyota ones so I'd imagine that'd be fine.

My primary concern is keeping the Phil & Ted's Sport Buggy from becoming a projectile if DH doesn't secure it or it slips a bungee cord. Or my 60 and 80 lb dogs who are *usually* wearing their harnesses, but have gone without on a few occasions. Or any of the other random heavy stuff DH has been known to just toss in the back without securing at all.

Hmmm, that kind of cargo net was meant for groceries or other small objects. Not a big one like a stroller. Have you considered the separation net or the cargo cover?

Yeah! The separation net! I'm just iffy on the fact that it attaches to the hand rails and the flimsy cargo hooks. The cargo net that came with the car is kind of a joke.
The cargo cover won't work because when the third row is up and the stroller is on its' side, it sticks up above the cargo cover's brackets.

What about the Weathertech Pet Barrier?

That's still pressure-mounted, yeah?

I've got a similar one. Is that one pressure mounted as well? Mine is, and because the cargo floor is also the third row seat back, it isn't very secure. My dogs can knock it down by bumping the bottom of the legs pretty easily. Not fun to have seatbelted dogs freaking out because something just fell on them while you're driving!
I've got the Solv-It Net Pet Barrier (http://www.amazon.com/Solvit-62289-Net-Pet-Barrier/dp/B000HHOG4M) and the Midwest 4-bar Pet Barrier (http://www.midwesthomes4pets.com/category/default.aspx?maincatid=53&subcat=9&submenu=0&catid=57).

The advice I was given & that I give is to check with the dealer first . . . if there isn't an itemto be installed professional that was designed specifically for your vehicle then I would hope for something appropriate from http://loadbarrier.com/index.htm
I would not use any pressure mounted item. I always tell families to remove the pressure mounted items when they get home. I personally used ratcheting straps to secure the stroller in my cargo area. I've also used bungees. Preferably secured as close to the back of the vehicle seat as possible while still following the vehicle manual.
My dogs always used harnesses from http://www.immioutdoors.com/petbuckle/ & http://www.ruffrider.com/

It appears that loadbarrier.com does not make/sell anything to fit my vehice. :( The dogs are typically wearing the PetBuckle harnesses. I will call a Honda dealer tomorrow about a barrier. I may just end up getting the cargo cover and continue relying on the PetBuckle harnesses.

It appears that loadbarrier.com does not make/sell anything to fit my vehice. :( I'm not super savvy on the company, but although I did see their vehicle list, I would still try to give them a call before automatically crossing them off the list.
