I am planning on purchasing a chicco travel system and my local Babies R Us tells me that if I buy one of the new Chicco Universal bases that fit both the keyfit and keyfit 30, then I can use that base with the regular keyfit and get up to 30 pounds rear facing without having to spend more on the keyfit 30. That doesn't sound right to me and I'm awaiting a call back from Chicco's carseat safety person. I wanted to purchase this weekend and was wondering if anyone knows if this is true or not. If i can save money without going with the keyfit 30 I will. Please help.
Thanks,
Shannon

The Chicco site doesn't seem to say, but I would assume that you could use the base for either the 22 or the 30, and you still must follow the weight limits on the seat itself.

*Most* babies are too tall for that seat at 22 pounds, though some chubby little ones (often babies with very tall parents or with a history if larger babies in the family) may hit 22 pounds as young as 6 months, when you still might want the convenience of the infant seat (just trying to give you a glimpse into the future so you can decide... my own dd was pretty big for her age and was too tall for this seat at 30 inches/20 pounds/11 months).

Echo the above; I think a new universal base would ensure that either carrier would fit...whether a 22 lb carrier or a 30lb carrier.
The base would not increase the capacity for the carrier itself.
One of those physics issues I believe can confuse some....:)
