OK, Darren asked me for more info about the ads in the threads that are giving me a problem. It's happening in earnest today so I was watching carefully to see if I could get enough info to determine if the problem is anything someone can help with. It's very irritating! LOL

What's happening is that some days/some threads I click on them, it begins to load and then I get an IE error message and get knocked out of the site. At the bottom of the screen where you see the site that is loading it changes to something that includs '...ads.modules..'. And today it's also saying '...target-gadgets.../target...'. Last time it was happening it was saying Google instead of Target. So maybe it's the Google and Target ads causing an issue?

Today I'm getting knocked off of the 'S/O Obama other issues' thread in SCM and the 'Elections, circs, hot topics' admin thread, also in SCM. It is also happening on my op in THIS forum about the ads.modules junk so I had to start a new thread. I am unable to get to the bottom of those threads before getting knocked off so I cannot tell you what ads are on those threads.

I can get into Morganthe's 'Overwhelmed' thread in SCM, there is a CARES ad there. And I can get into the Michele Obama's dress thread, the CNN/Obama wins thread and the Holy Aftermarkets Batman thread - all in SCM. The last 3 all have Volvo ads.

Don't know if that helps...

I just wanted to say that I was having the same problem in IE and Chrome, but I switched to Firefox and it hasn't done it since.

It definitely sounds like certain Google ads are causing the problem. Since they are tied to keywords on a page, they would be more likely to appear on some than others.

Some Google ads are based on Adobe Flash. One suggestion would be to make sure you have the latest version of Flash. Another option might be one of the freeware ad blockers that some people use to block Google ads altogether. Be sure to find one that isn't malware!

If you can cut and paste the exact error message, perhaps I can Google it for more information.

In case anyone is having this problem and reads this; Scatter's idea to get rid of google as the homepage did nothing for me either.

However, I switched to Firefox and so far it hasn't happened!

Thanks for the help guys! :D

I just had this happen twice-- on the front page of the forums. It just refused to load, with the "ads.google.blahblahblah" address loading on the bottom... Eventually it froze my browser and I had to use the Task Manager to close it before it crashed my computer.

That's exactly what happened to me all the time until I switched to Firefox, now it isn't happening at all.
