View Full Version : Baby Trend Flex Loc
I had one of these come through a check lane yesterday and for the life of me we could not get that thing tight. I finally got in to have less than 1" movement, but it was horrible. I have never had a seat with that issue. The LATCH straps would barely move. It was just miserable. Is there something I am missing? I have installed other baby trend seats and didn't have this problem.

Maybe it was an incompatibility? I've installed that base in 2 cars and had no problems.

I have that seat and love how tight I can always get it with LATCH. When you say the latch straps would barely move, do you mean that you couldn't tighten or loosen them? There is a bit of a trick to pulling on it at the right angle. To loosen, I feed the tail of the strap back in, then press the red button and pull it out sideways. To tighten, pull the tail across the base, towards the other side. I put my knee on the base (which seems to be contoured for just that) and lean slightly towards the side that I am tightening.
If you are not using a latch install, and are using seat belt instead, there is a cubby that you can tuck the latch into to get it out of the belt's way. You'll have to lengthen the latch straps first, then tuck them in.
Now I have had problems with the FlexLoc base using seat belt install (on my husband's 99 Grand Am). The base is pretty narrow at the belt path, and the seat belts on that car are spaced pretty far apart, so it slid sideways big time. The rigid latch-loc base is wider at the belt path so that is what we have in his car (rock-solid).

I have my babytrend flex loc installed nice and tight at the moment!
My guess is the seat you installed wasn't a good match for the car. :)
I have a '99 car without latch so i installed the seat with the seatbelt and it's TIGHT. I can't move it at all.

Sometimes with the flex-loc it's the angle you are trying to pull to get it tight, usually it is an issue of the base also needing to be centered in the seating position so that you have equal pulling on both sides...pull them tight one at a time....
The issue wasn't incompatibility I don't think. I couldn't get the LATCH straps to tighten. It was weird. I finally got it, but it has been bugging me.

Umm, I HATE installing the Flex Loc, almost as much as I hated the LATCH Loc version. The base is so narrow and the belt path is so high up on it that I always end up at some weird angle in the car. Definately not my favorite seat to install.
