Hi again

I posted here with my concern about my FF Radian sliding forward when I checked the seemingly tight installation:
http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=62517

I thought I had fixed the problem with one of the suggestions that I recline the Radian. This morning I noticed that it is moving forward again when I tightened my DS in his seat. I do not know what else I can do since it will not tighten any more.

Any tips would be appreciated because I do not feel that my son is safe in his seat.

Thanks

Try this:

When it's slipping forward, notice where it slides to. Then, when you re-install it, start out with it in that "slipped-forward" position. Compress the carseat straight down while you tighten (don't push it back.)

You'll wind up with a slight gap near the base, but the majority of the carseat will still be resting against the seatback. That often fixes this problem.

Here are some pics to show what I mean.

In this pic, the install is too loose:

Here's it's nice & tight:

Thank you Debbie. I tried what you suggested and now it is in tight and does not slide. However, the back of the Radian is now only touching the back of the seat at the top section and there is a gap of 3.5 " from then on down. Also the edge of the Radian hangs over 3". Is that okay?

Ooo... no, that sounds like more of a gap than I'd anticipated when I suggested it. The Radian can overhang the front of the seat, as long as 80% of the base is still on the vehicle seat, but 3.5" between the back of the Radian and the seatback seems like too much.

Could you take pics?

I read some more information on this website that led me to believe that I was using TOO MUCH FORCE when checking my installation. I reinstalled and now there is only a small gap between the bottom of the Radian and the back of the seat, and I checked the install using one hand at the belt path and it is SOLID:)

I feel better now. Thank you for the advice. I may post a picture tomorrow anyhow, if I can locate the camera:o

It seems that once again I am back to square one  When I went to tighten the harness for my son the whole seat moved forward again! I think I am going to have to try it in another position which sucks because DS is my youngest and I like him behind the driver for convenience and easy access in an emergency. I have two Regents on the 3rd row bench and the 2nd row is a bench seat.
