I'm just wondering if anyone knows why the headrest on the TF has to be used after 22lbs...I can see the reason for using it once baby reaches the red line, I'm just wondering how the weight factors in?

Not sure but I wonder if the heavier the baby the more they will ram up in a collision?
It could also just be 22lbs to remove the infant insert and put the headrest back on so that parents don't forget. If they are taking out the insert then just one more step to add the headrest and you're all set for awhile.

That's kinda what I was thinking...more of a do it now so you don't forget later kinda thing!

From the manual (http://www.elitecarseats.com/assets/product_files/instructions/Compass/Compass_TrueFitConvertible_manual.pdf), page 7: This child restraint, without the upper seatback in a rearfacing position is, designed for use by children whose:
- Weight is between 5 and 22 lbs (2,3 and 10 kg), and
- Head is 1 inch below the top of the seat.
Child MUST meet BOTH of these requirements to use this
Convertible Seat without the upper seatback installed

Oh, I totally realize it has to be used over 22lbs, I am just wondering if anyone knows the reasoning behind the weight criteria...

I just re read your post and see that :o. I would say it is a ramping issue with a child over 22 lbs as the pp said.

I actually could see it being a standards thing even in terms of rotation because the headrest is attached by metal rods. Maybe those metal rods give some rigidity to the top of the shell that is needed with a heavier child to prevent over-rotation?
