I just tried to install a Graco Snugride infant car seat base in our '93 Corolla and can't get the seat belt to clip in once I have the locking clip attached. I was going to have UAS anchor points installed in the lower points, but I see now that it can't be done. Anyone have any advice?

Thanks,

Michael

If you cannot get the seatbelt to latch, you need to remove the locking clip and try again. I still do this and I have been installing seats for a long time. You just have to keep trying to get it in tight and with the locking clip on it. Are you installing in the middle or the side?

It sometimes helps to have another person assist you with the job: One person puts weight on the seat, the other uses both hands to buckle the belt.

Ugh, I remember installing the snugride base in my '89 Accord, with a locking clip. I think I was 7 months pregnant. Definitely not fun, but doable. It takes a lot of determination.

Are you trying to install in the middle or one of the side positions? Is it a lap only belt, or a lap/shoulder? Locking clips should only be used on lap/shoulder belts.

I have a '94 Corolla, and was able to install the Snugride in the middle with the lap belt, but not the outboard positions with lap/shoulder belts. The design of the seatbelts on the sides allowed the base to slide forward on the door side even when it was very tight at the belt path.

Edited to add, make sure you adjust the recline foot to the most reclined setting in the SR. And, the female buckle stalks in Toyotas are notoriously long, so you might have to twist it out of the belt path (max 3 full twists of the female end of the belt).
