The ads change every few refreshes, so we won't see the same things you see..

Yup - I don't think that those should be there. Working on looking into it (since I personally cannot do anything about it).

OK since this has now been moved to "Announcements and Feedback" and will probably never be read again....my feedback is I think it's wrong and no political ads of any sort should be on here....

I don't see any ads. Weird.

Mine says "It's one thing they agree on (showing a pick of McCain and Obama)" or something like that and then yes on 8

Any chance that those of you seeing them can take a screen shot and either post it or PM me or Admin or one of the other mods? Everything I've looked at tonight just has a Target ad.

Thanks!

I've refreshed a number of times and haven't seen it yet. I can possibly ban it, but I need someone who sees it to right click on it and select "properties". Then copy the Address URL given and paste it in reply here.

These are the instructions from Google:

Right-click on the ad title and select either 'Copy Shortcut' (IE) or 'Copy Link Location' (Netscape).
Paste the selection into a text editor for editing.
The destination URL of the ad includes the text between 'adurl=' and '&'. As an example, the copied URL will appear as follows:
http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/adclick?sa=l&(...)&adurl=http://www.blogger.com&client=

or
http://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/adclick?adurl=http://www.blogger.com&sa=

The destination URL in the example above is 'http://www.blogger.com'. You can view the ad by entering the URL into your browser's address bar.

With that information, I should be able to remove such ads. Thank you!

Here's a screenshot of just the ad...

I've refreshed a number of times and haven't seen it yet.

Maybe it's just us in Cali that can see it??

I'll try and get the URL for you......

Also, the ads trigger on keywords in the thread. So if you are reading a thread with related content, that's likely why Google chose to display those types of ads.

It won't let me select properties. Just "zoom in/out" and something else. Properties was not an option, It is on all other ad banners though.
If I click on the banner link and go to the webpage and send you that does it help???

CPSDarren

I would also need the URL information I described above. I will ban the URL shown in the ad, but it may not be the actual source of the ad so it could still appear.

CPSDarren
11-03-2008, 08:11 PM
I'm banning the webpage listed in the ad, but if that isn't the actual source it would still appear.

steph
11-03-2008, 08:22 PM
yeah it's still appearing on mine

CPSDarren
11-03-2008, 08:23 PM
Can you please link the thread where it appears? Since the ads are tied to page content, maybe I can get it to appear also.

So it is appearing on this page in the announcements forum for you? I've been refreshing it and all I get is Target and CARES.

Yep - looking at it now.

ETA: even when I click that link I link'd to you it shows up for me

Very odd. This is the wide ad just above the reply box, right?

Unless I can get it to appear or someone can find the underlying link, I can't do much more to ban it.

steph

Yes, the wide banner ad above the reply box.

When I click on it I get this site

It must be only for those of us in California.

It must be only for those of us in California.

Ah that is very likely. I know you can target ads by region.

I banned that website a little while ago. The problem is that they may be serving ads from another site or multiple sites. I did some searching on Google and some others have had the same issue. If they don't go away shortly, I will disable Google ads through tomorrow.

CPSDarren

Are these ads still appearing now?

Does anyone see the same or similar ads anywhere else, such as the top banner ad to the right of the EliteCarSeats ad or the banner ad that appears after the first post in a thread for some users?

CPSDarren
11-03-2008, 09:03 PM
Yeah damned if ya do, damned if ya don't. Mostly I'm pissed at Google for making it so difficult to find the underlying information I need to get rid of it. Whoever placed the ads for this organization must have known how to do it. Probably safest to rid the ad for 24 hours, who knows what political ads will appear tomorrow.

mamabear
11-03-2008, 09:13 PM
it's still there but the pictures in the banner are now a little kids reading instead of all the presidential nominees.....

It MUST be just us in CALI that see it...

ETA I just hit refresh and now its a picture of a ballot...but it's still the same ad.

These people aren't going away!!!

CPSDarren
11-03-2008, 09:15 PM
I'll remove the Google ads from those placements as soon as the kids are in bed. It will only be in the default and "Car-Seat.Org" styles, so if you have one of the other styles active you would need to switch.

The issue should be resolved. I will swich back on Wednesday and hopefully they will disappear on their own.

http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=62784

I'd just leave it with Amazon, but Amazon only supports the forum if someone buys something whereas with Google they just have to visit, thus Google generates more revenue.

YES!! they are gone!!!

Sounds like it's taken care of, but I'm in Cali, and was getting Yes on 8 ad on carseatblog.com today. I went just now though, and it's some kind of acai berry ad.

The Google Ads are running again. Please start a new thread if you see anything unusual, objectionable, offensive, etc.
