View Full Version : It's OK to use a snugride w/o the base, right?

I know it's allowed. but is there a difference in terms of safety? I'm traveling next week and am thinking about leaving the base at home. TIA!

Nope, both are equally safe when installed/used correctly. Some may argue that the base is "safer", but only because you don't have to factor in potential install errors each time you use it because you tend to just install it once. So in short, as long as you install the carrier correctly every time, it is just as safe as using it with the base!

The few times that I've installed an infant seat baseless, I just took baby in and out to avoid the reinstalling altogether. ;)

When using seat belts, I actually find it easier to install without the base than with. Might depend on the car though. I didn't bring the base with me when I installed in my mom's Sienna (was visiting her). I just got another seat and installed it in her car. Her car is just ridiculously easy to install car seats in.

That's probably what I'll do. I usually leave it in the car anyway.

It's a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee, btw.
