I saw an ad for the AOE 50lb FFg (IIRC, 35lbs RF) version in either Today's Parent or Canadian Family mag last night....

Oooo, that means it must be close then. Does it state a pattern name or anything?

No pattern. Just "Alpha Omega Elite" bottom left of the ad, Safety 1st bottom right. 3/4 of the page is a big photo of the seat. Off to the left in text on the top of the page "3 uses, 1 seat" and below that on the left pictograms showing a RFg seat, (1), infant and 2.3-16kg (5-35lbs), then FFg seat (2) toddler 10-22.6kg (22-50lbs) and booster mode (3) Booster, 18-36kg (40-80lbs).
At least they've stopped the "the only seat you'll need" crap. And I like that they show the seat RFg to 35lbs.... Maybe more people will use it RFg to the max?
Does anyone know if the top slots are high? I haven't been following the US threads on this seat.... However, if it has high top slots, it might be a good seat to recommend to my kids daycare.
TIA

Bubbbray,
Older 3-in-1 seats have the top bar position for booster mode only rule. (as I'm sure you know).
The new 3-in-1 seats do not have this rule anymore. The top bar position is now reinforced and can be used in conjunction with the 5 point harness.
This allowance is Not retroactive to older 3-in-1 seats though.
What this means is the older seats still have 15-15.5" top useable harness slots (and a 40lb harnessing limit),
and the new 3-in-1's have 17" top harness slots (and a 50lb harnessing limit).
So basically what it means is that most/all kids will now make it to 40lbs (or more) in the 5 point harness and still have shoulders under the top slots. Another way of thinking about it, is the 3-in-1 seats will now have the same top harness slot measurement as the Britax Marathon and EFTA.
From what I understand the seat still falls short in booster mode though. No changes there.
The seat used to (like pre-'04?) rf to 35lbs though, so this is just a re-sticker change in that regard. And a good one at that. :)

I agree. I was even confused just trying to word my post correctly.
From what I recall seeing in pics, the harness covers are quite different on the 'new' version. But from a distance other than harness covers, does anyone know of any other distinguishing features?? Just curious.

ITA about changing the name.
I'm on the prowl for seats for my daycare provider. Not for *my* girls (I provide their daycare seats), but her "general use" seats used by other kids. I'm thinking the AOE might do the trick for her, or at least be in the running (I'm also pimping the TF and the Nautilus for the older kids) .... She's trying to figure out if she will get all the parents to provide seats specifically for their kids (like I do) or what.
But, yeah, I can't imagine her getting the "right" AOE, KWIM? Though I did talk her into getting a MA for her latest grandchild....

So, they are really on sale then? If there were a national database of techs, this would be worth emailing them about . It will definitely make things confusing at clinics, since there are alot of techs who are great at installing seats (better than me :o ) but aren't really up on the new products coming out...

No one appears to have actually seen one IRL. My guess is soon if the ads are appearing, though.

I'm glad to hear that, not because I love the seat... but because it seems to be really popular with a lot of people.

Just so everybody isn't confused, this poster is in the US.
I hope that it's not 3 months away with that ad being in the magazine already - people will run out and buy the current AOE not realizing it's still the old one. :(
And it will actually have a 50lb ff'ing limit huh? Nice that it looks like they won't do the 47lb thing like Evenflo's interpretation of the interim order.
