View Full Version : Anti-rebound foot and CMVSS regulations - Allport?

This is a two part question spawned from another post (http://www.car-seat.org/showpost.php?p=596728&postcount=18) about the True Fit with the ARF that is being released in the US in the new year and speculation as to whether or not it will be released in Canada.

1. Do CMVSS regulations have anything in them that would prohibit an anti-rebound foot?
and
2. Do you happen to know if First Years is planning to certify the new model to CMVSS standards?

Okay, I sent an email to Learning Curve asking about certification of the new seat in Canada. I will report back what they say. I know they usually take forever to return emails, so it might be awhile! Maybe someone also wants to call (if they have time to wait on hold) and see if we get the same answer. :)

Maybe Allport can chime in on an answer to question 1? or maybe direct us to who we could ask that question?

Not that they're anywhere near the same seat...

But we did have the FP Stay In View which was "anti-rebound" by nature.. though not actually marketed that way.

And my Combi infant seat's base was very much anti-rebound by design, though again, not marketed that way.

But it's a good question since IIRC this will be our first actual ARB convertible seat... with actual marketing, actual rebound prevention/reduction...

I personally hope it comes. And at that point, I *might* actually be open to purchasing one... maybe. ;) :p

There is nothing in the regs that prohibit the anti-rebound bar or foot. So, if they can design one that passes our standard - go for it! As for the new seat from Learning Curve - haven't had it mentioned yet, but I am meeting with the head honcho in Toronto on Tuesday and I'll ask.....

Awesome, thanks! I'll be looking forward to seeing what the answer is. :D

I didn't think there was anything prohibiting an ARB/ARF, but figured it best to ask just in case.

PLEASE ASK IF THEY WILL BE BRINGING THE GIRLY PRINTS (for the TF and the B530 booster) to Canada. Sorry, I have to yell, I'm on the WestCoast, LOL.

Also, can you please ask if they will be bringing the B540 booster to Canada???

Thanks! :)

The site was down so I wasn't able to post my update. Learvning Curve got back to me and they said they won't know until closer to January about whether or not the True Fit is going to come to be tested for Canada. Allport will probably get better info with her contact though!

I really hope they bring it here sooner - my DS is only 2 lbs away from outgrowing his Marathon RF and I am almost 100% positive I would be happier with this seat than the original (which we also have). :( I'd hate to miss it by a few months.

Thanks to everyone for asking the questions though!

Uhhh, I can just say by experience that if a seat has not even been applied for compliance testing, then it a LONG time away from being available for sale. It sounds like LC might not even make the business call to test it against CMVSS until Jan 2009.

So unless that extra 2 lbs would stretch into months and months, I'd say start planning to for something else rather than pinning your hope on this ATR TF, kwim?

I'll be getting a regular TF to replace the MA in my car if the new one isn't here. It'll just suck to be stuck with two TFs that are annoying to adjust RF when there is another one out there that I would like better. Such is life. ;)

Just to let you know - since they already have the NSM for 213 and 213.1 then they don't have to re-apply. They can do internal testing and bring it onto the market as long as it complies. We'll check the documentation and then do our own testing - but it can and will be on the market by the time that we test it. It's a self-certification program - if they have the NSM we don't need to give the go-ahead before it's for sale.......
