View Full Version : Question Car Seat Expiration Thread

Can we start a thread with the expiration dates of car seats? I guess I am assuming there are standards for each manufacturer.

A local mom has made it her mission to protect the children of our town from the sale of used car seats (flagging CL). I am supporting her idea, but am trying to limit my vigilante behavior to expired seats or those with missing parts, etc. It would be helpful to me to know if someone say "I am selling a 5 yr old evenflo seat" if that means it is expired. Sort of a cheat sheet, I guess. I know that when they bought it does not equal the DOM, but it is a good starting point to identifying old seats.

evenflo- dec of the 6th year
britax- 6 yrs
true fit- 7 yrs
radian- 8 yrs

Britax Frontier has 9 years

Graco Nautilus has 9 years as a backless booster (6 as a harness and highback booster though)

Evenflo Symphony is 8 years instead of the typical 6 years for the other evenflo seats

peg perego primo viaggio infant seats have 5 years - at least according to the manual (http://www.pegperego.com/pegcatalogue/juvenile/downloads/PrimoViaggioSIP-US_FIUS0602I61.pdf - page 7)

You could just use the Transport Canada page for reference:

It shows at least the ones that are sold in Canada (so no recaro and no GN) and differentiates from the regular Dorel seats and the 3-in-1s.

I use that site, combined with the pictorial guide and I can usually figure out whether they're expired.

Safety first Uptown/Avenue 8 years
Some of the newer alpha omegas are 8 years???

I think the rest of the dorel seats are 6 years.

There are many models that were discontinued in 2002, so you know those are expired or will be in just a small amount of time.
