We are flying Air Pacific to the states when we come home for x-mas and we have a 3 day lay over in Fuji however it looks like I can't use my car seat for ds because he is over the age of 3, but is 17 kilo (so he is under the weight)?

I really don't want him sittting in a seat because of his Autism he has sensory issues and really likes the feel of his car seat and I don't think that he will be able to sit for that long w/out running around. I want to be able to keep him in his harness because it is safer and I don't want to have our luggage lost again or his seat to get damaged.

Here is the rules for the airline:
Seating for children and infants
Children under the age of 2, not occupying a seat and accompanied by an adult, may travel on an infant fare. A child travelling on an infant fare must be held by the accompanying adult. For safety reasons an adult can hold only one infant.

If you are the only adult travelling with more than one infant you will need to reserve a seat for the additional infant and pay a child's fare (available for children up to and including 11 years of age). The additional infant must occupy a seat and be able to sit upright without assistance. Subject to prior notification, approved car seats can be taken on board for infants required to occupy a seat. The following Infant Car Seats are approved for use onboard Air Pacific aircraft:

Britax 2-way seat, forward facing only, BSI test NPR 1/002/003
Britax Recliner, upright & forward facing only, BSI test NPR 1/002/001
Mothercare Recline Car Seat, upright and forward facing only, BSI test NPR A1/001/002
Mothercare two-stage, forward facing only, BSI test NPR A1/001/003
Infant seats that meet the Federal Aviation Authority of United States requirement specified in TSO C100a with the endorsement “Certified for use in Motor Vehicles and Aircraft”
Infant seats meeting the European Community requirement of ECE Regulation 44.

However a e-mail that my travel agent sent me from them states that a child that is over 3yrs and 18 kilo (40lbs) must use the air line seat and not a car seat.

Do you think it would do any good if my Dr. writes a letter stating that my son must use his car seat on the plane?

I for got to add that his car seat is a US Britax Blvd

I tihnk I'd take a note from his doctor. For the safety and sanity of everyone else on board, I agree that he should be in a familiar environment.

Can you talk to anyone at the airlines? Explain that his seat IS FAA approved and you'd like to use it because he has autism and will travel better in a familiar seat.

I am going to see my travel agent to day ( yes, we still have lots of travel agents here) and have him call them and explain it to them to see if they will make an exception. I did tell him that it is a US seat that it is approved for airline use.

People here just don't use car seats on planes. I always have a struggle when I use mine.
