I thought it was 3 months but I think it depends on the province.
Where are you looking to move to?

It does depend on the province, although it's technically illegal to import a US carseat, so based on that you need to have Canadian seats waiting for you at the border. A bit of an oversight, if you ask me!

No, our carseats DO RF beyond 22lbs. For a few years our max RF weight was 30lbs, but now we have the True Fit with a 35lb max RF limit. (It's the only seat up here right now that does, but the word is other manufacturers are going to re-certify their seats to the higher RF limits too.)
Yes, all FF harnessed seats are required to be top tethered up here.
If your husband's employer is paying moving expenses, new carseats should be included in that - it is an expense of moving. If they absolutely refuse, you could try getting your Canadian seats early, then selling your U.S. seats before you leave. :shrug-shoulders:
HTH! :)

I'm not sure how shipping would work. Probably a lot easier than the other way around (shipping up here from the U.S.) If you or your husband (or the family) go before you move (to look for a house, etc.) you could buy them then.
The True Fit is the only seat right now that RF to 35lbs. :)

The RN is available in Canada and I don't believe it is much more in Canada ($239) then it is in the US ($219.) The SS1 is also available here and can be more expensive here ($130-190.)
There are some infant seats that RF to 22lbs but the convertables RF to 30lbs with the TF RF to 35lbs.
It can be cold in Canada but it all depends on where you are talking. I live on the West Coast and our weather was pretty much the same as in Seattle. Now I live in Manitoba and we have weather similar to North Dakota. It really isn't colder then in the US but it is all depends on where you are going and where you are coming from :twocents:
I think that starting school depends on where you live as well. I know in Manitoba that you have to be 5 by the end of December of the year starting (ie. to start school in September 2009 your child must be 5 by December 31 2009.)

Most pre-schools here require that your child is 3 and potty trained. As for Schooling it depends like the PP said. In Ontario they can start JK (junior Kindergarten) at 3, as long as they turn 4 by Nov/dec, and SK (senior kindergarten) the following year (age 4-5 I believe). Where as here in Alberta you can start when your 4 as long as you turn 5 by march I believe. The NWT you can start School at 4 as long as you turn 5 by Dec 31st. Since your DS turns 5 by the end of August, I think that you'll be fine for kindergarten where ever you end up, and if you end up in Ontario you'd be able to put him into JK right aways.
Yes, all car seats are required by law to be top tethered here in Canada, but most dealerships will install the tethers either for free or for a small fee. But seeing as you have everyone rf, that something that can be looked into over time.

Since they have '06 and '08 vehicles, not an issue :)

You should let us know what province you may be moving to--it'll help. Costs can vary dramatically between locations.. It may even help to have an idea of what city you'll be living in.
Here in BC, anything prior to kindergarten is still currently private. I believe this may be changing in the coming years, but right now we pay around $80/m for preschool, for 3 1/2 days a week.

In Ontario (or at the very least the Toronto school board) JK & SK are free. :)

In Ontario, j/k and s/k are free if you are with the public or Catholic board. I have no idea how much private school would cost. You need to be 4 by the end of the calendar year that you start jk, and 5 by the end of the calendar year that you start sk. Currently there are 2 methods of delivery and it depends both on your school board, and the individual school. The school is either half day every day. This is slowly being phased out as it is more expensive due to bussing. You'll be more likely to find this option in urban centres where there is little bussing. The other option is full days usually implemented as Mon/Wed/Alternating Fridays (or Tues/Thurs/Alternating Friday). Some school boards are a little different.
Can't help you with the car seat issue though. Sorry.
