View Full Version : Question Help finding a Safeseat in Canada?

We just moved here from the US, and had to get rid of our much-loved Safeseat in SAMBA color (the shiny blue one) because of TC restrictions. We're now due with baby #2 in a couple weeks, and are having a heck of a time replacing it.
Specifically - we did a lot of research for baby #1, and found that Safeseats come in a few differnet qualities. The SAMBA, CENTRAL PARK, and G-COLLECTION patterns all have more foam, feel more comfortable, and come with an extra infant positioner and the toe cover piece. We really liked all those features, and just want to get them again.
But, I have looked everywhere - from what I hear Graco is changing their patterns and styles, and so everyone in Canada is sold out of those three patterns. There are stores selling other patterns, but they all felt really hard and uncomfortable when I played with them, compared to our cushy Samba pattern.
So - has anyone seen carseats in any of those three prints ANYWHERE in Canada? I'm willing to call stores, pay shipping, whatever it takes, we just want a good seat for our next baby!

None of those patterns have GracoPedic Foam like their counterparts in the US. They do have the nicer head/body hugger. There is one seat at E-Children in Calgary that has the GracoPedic Foam, but I can not find the pattern name anywhere on Graco Canada's site and I haven't been to South Calgary in a few months. It looks very similar to Central Park, but it is not Central Park. It is the only SS1 that I have found to have the GracoPedic foam in it.

Jane I'm not sure where in Canada you are, but one store in Toronto did sell the G Pattern, I bought in in August. However I lost a year on it already, as it has a DOM on Feb (or may) 2007 I believe.
I'm not sure about the foam as mine is only up around the head and upper body, and I really don't know how to tell for the gracoPedic Foam.
Anyways here is the link to that seat...

Baby Depot (http://www.thebabydepot.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=107) has listed the G-Collection, Samba, Central Park, Pierson and Legacy but they say they have a 2-4 week lead time.

Thanks - I had ordered the one from Baby Depot - but they emailed me back pretty quick and said they can't get any of those 3 patterns from the manufacturer anymore... They offered two others (both for sale in stores here) which we didn't want, so they refunded me.
It's interesting to learn that the GracoPedic foam isn't in the same seats in Canada as it is in the US. I had just assumed it would be - so thanks for the info!
Oh and we're in Ottawa. Maybe I'll make another round through our local stores to find the cushiest feeling seat...!

Having owned a Snugride with Gracopedic foam, and also a SS1 without the foam I can honestly say my girls didn't seem to notice any difference. Isn't a diaper pretty cushy all on it's own? :p
Since our SS1's are on the pricy side already (albeit completely worth it) I think I'd just get one of the models with the nicer headhuggers and not worry so much about padding... but that's just me. :shrug-shoulders:

If you can't find it in Ottawa and only at the Baby Palace, I can ship it for you. I work not too far from the Erin Mills location.

Try Kiddy Town - if they don't have it they will probably try order it in for you - go to the one on Gladwin Cres. as it's the main store.

Just an update in case anyone else is wondering about this too - Apparently in Canada the only model currently available with the Gracopedic foam is the RITTENHOUSE color. (http://www.graco.net/e/item.asp?code=8817&s=0577FHH) Of course every online retailer I can find is currently sold out of it. I made it to Kiddytown in Ottawa yesterday to check out the ones they have (there are 2 - Ionic and French Roast - they cannot order in other colors). I am just so surprised by how hard and uncomfortable the seats without that extra padding feel... I know thats where the baby's diaper would sit (and ours will be in cloth - so extra padding!), but still - they are just really hard and pokey feeling. I will keep trying to track down the Rittenhouse one online, but if I can't find it, may just have to go with the regular ones.
Also, Graco said they are releasing the new patterns - the ones currently available only in the US - in Canada starting in January. In case anyone is waiting for one of those!
Thanks everyone for all your help!!

I have this safeseat, and the sears website says it has the EPS foam...I don't remember offhand right now if it does, and DS is sleeping in it. :)

Yes it does have EPS foam. That is the white foam on the inside of the seat that goes around the head. The seats that have more foam isn't EPS foam but GracoPedic foam which is soft and is just a bit more deluxe.
