Hi,
Please forgive my ignorance on the correct acronyms, I'm slowly learning.
#1 I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. I need to install 2 Marathon's RF. Ideally they would be center and behind the passenger. These locations have latch. Can the seats be butted up next to each other?
#2 When I have installed them, in the 2 outboard positions, RF I tethered them. The tethering appears to pull the recline down farther. How do I avoid this?
Thank you!

You're doing great with the acronyms. :)
As long as each Marathon (MA) can be installed independently of the other, with less than 1 inch of movement at the MA's belt path, then it would be fine to have them installed side by side.
The top tether strap should not be tightened to the point that it's pulling the RF MA into a steeper recline. Just tighten up the tether strap's slack to make it taut without pulling the RF MA into a steeper recline angle. Tightening up the tether to increase the RF recline angle isn't recommended because it has been known to break the recline mechanism in the MA's base so that it won't stay in the upright position for a forward facing installation.
If you need to make the RF recline angle more upright for a baby/toddler with good head control (but no more upright than 30 degrees), you can do so by pressing more on the front edge of the MA when you initially install the seat, before you connect and the tether and make it taut. Conversely, if you need to make it more reclined for a younger baby/infant (but no more reclined than 45 degrees), you can press down more on the seating area of the MA as you install it, before you connect the tether and make it taut.

they can be next to eachother as long as there not pushing on eachother... each should be independently installed... seat belt is just as safe if its easier to move them both outboard... latch is just supposed to be easier... you tether should not be real tight... just pull the slack out... that shouldnt effect the recline... hth!

Like the PP said, seatbelts are no less safe than LATCH. In fact, you may find that you have more room to install them side by side if you are using the seatbelt for the outboard position (because the seatbelt generally allows you to install closer to the door than the lower anchors).

You should be able to easily install them center and passenger, even both with latch. I have done it in an 99(with seat belts), 04, and 08.
*I have done it in suburbans, but the center seat is the same in tahoes.
