What are folks' thoughts on new in box Britaxes on Ebay, Frontier in particular? Are there ever Britaxes available that aren't the same quality as ones sold at regular online or in-store retailers? Should I be concerned about quality?

They could be store returns, they could be 'damaged shipment items'. They could be perfectly fine.

IMO it's too risky. Britax will not honor the warranty of a NIB seat purchased on Ebay unless it's purchased from an authorized reseller.

You run a couple of risks by buying seats on ebay; first, if the seller is not an authorized Britax retailer (most are not), Britax does not have to honor the warranty that comes with the seat. If you ever have a problem and they ask you to send in proof of where you purchased and you bought the seat on ebay, they can tell you, "Sorry, we can't help you".

Second, the seat may look like it's brand new in the box, but you cannot be sure that it isn't a customer return or that it does not have unseen damage. Honestly, you can almost always find a seat cheaper than what sellers on ebay charge- try Live Search Cash Back, and search for coupons to stack. FatWallet and Mr.Rebates are great sources for deals, too.

The warranty issue alone is enough to keep me from buying Britax on ebay- if something happens to your seat (like all those Marathons that wouldn't stay in the upright position after being installed RF for so long, for example) and they won't honor the warranty, you're stuck with an expensive seat and no recourse. I don't know if Britax ever actually asks for proof of purchase, but they can, kwim?

Okay, thanks! I'm convinced (to not go the Ebay route). :)
