I have my 2 1/2 year old rear facing in a Marathon. It's in a leather captain's chair on the passenger side of our van. The problem I have is that no matter how tightly I install it after pulling the base out from the seat bight, when we pull the strap to tighten the harness the carseat slips back down agains the vehicle seat. Any suggestions of how to keep the carseat from slipping would be great. I tried shelf liner under it and it didn't help.

i'm not sure what you mean by upright. i think you mean you want less recline for your child. try putting the seat in how you usually would. then stand behind the set and lean over it pushing toward the vehicle seat with your stomach and down on the front by the crotch buckle.have someone help you to tighten the latch. also are you using the rear facing tether...if so remember it just needs to be taught but not tight causing the seat to recline. hopes this helps you some

Yes, less recline. I am 8 months pregnant so the standing behind the seat thing won't work for me. Maybe I can get dh to help with that. I'm not using the tether so that's not affecting anything. Thanks for the suggestion.

Are you installing it with LATCH or the seat belt? Is the carseat itself in recline mode (this is required, btw, even if you are trying to install it more upright.) What kind of van (year/make/model)?
I'm having a hard time picturing how it could be slipping if it was tightly installed. Could you take some pictures?

Right now I have it installed with the seatbelt, but I think I might try the LATCH. Yes, the carseat is in the reclined position. It's in a 2005 Buick Tarraza and I can take some pictures maybe this afternoon.

I reinstalled (in the other seat this time) using the LATCH. This is where I want the seat to stay, so we'll see what happens when I get ds into it and pull on the strap to adjust the harness.

When you say it slips when you pull the strap to tighten the harness - are you pulling it straight up? Aside from messing up your install, that has also been known to fray the harness.
This might sound counter-intuitive, but what if you reclined the vehicle seat a couple of clicks, so that you can pull the strap at a straighter angle?

I probably don't pull it straight up, it probably gets pulled more towards ds if that makes sense. I'll try reclining the seat again to see if that helps. I had it a little more reclined than it is now but I don't remember if that made much a difference with the slipping.
