When we install in the center seating position the male end of the buckle ends up completly inside the belt path of the RN. Also, the locking latchplate is not 'locking' It is able to slide through and creates a loose install after a while, and by a while I mean 30 seconds. Can I use a locking clip? This is even assuming we can install in this position with the way the belt ends up. Sorry I don't have pics. Hopefully tomorrow I can get some. We have until now installed outboard passenger side and I just ate the dash. But we need the l/s belt for a booster child now, so I need to get the RN in the center. Any tips or suggestions?

Anyone??? We are supposed to go camping this weekend...with the pickup and DH's solution is to turn DD FF for the weekend.

You cannot use a locking clip on a lap-only belt. The fix for that situation is to flip the latchplate (male end) 180 degrees and buckle it "upside-down." That will firmly engage the locking portion of the latchplate.

However, that still doesn't solve your first problem, which is that the buckle is resting at the edge of the belt path. If your buckle stalks are made of webbing (most are) you can twist it up to three full, 360-degree turns in order to shorten it. If that doesn't work to pull the latchplate out of the belt path, then it's likely an incompatible install. :(

We have a 2002 Silverado and I have never been able to get a solid install even flipping the latch plate up side down due to the belt stalks.

The Graco Nautilus I can get in the center but it's a lot of work but do able. The Britax Decathlon installs like a dream in the center because there is no LATCH bar plus the tall base helps with the long belt stalks.
