View Full Version : Installing Frontier and Roundabout in 2005 CRV?

I am trying to make sure my Frontier and RA are both installed correctly in my 2005 Honda CRV. I have the Frontier installed on the passenger side using the seatbelt as I read that the LATCH limit is 40 lbs for the CRV. This install seems just fine to me. I want to install my RA rear-facing in the center for my infant. I know I can't use LATCH for that so I am stuck with the shoulder/lap belt install and tethering to the metal bar under the driver's seat. I have a tight installation, but I noticed that the buckle hits on the front edge of the RA (not totally on the side of the base). I see in the RA user manual that they warn against the buckle being on the edge if the seat is FF, but I see no similar warnings for rear-facing. Should I be concerned about this? I'm worried that there is improper pressure on the buckle because the seat is too wide to fit easily in the space (probably because the Frontier next to it is taking up that extra space). Should I move the RA to the driver's side? I hate to do that b/c the center is so much safer.
Thanks for any advice!

If you can't get them in properly next to one another you definitely need to move the RA. I'd twist the stalk down to get the buckle a little lower, but generally as long as it's flat and not starting to turn into the beltpath then it's ok. Does that make sense?
However, you actually have it backward on who to put where. Rear facing is so much safer than forward facing that you would put your lesser protected child, the forward facing child, in the most protected spot. Then put the baby behind you. That would be the ideal. But if you have to put one on either side that is also remarkably safe.

Thanks. The buckle isn't totally flat right now, but its turning on the base rather than into the beltpath, if that makes sense (the buckle receptor is slightly behind the edge of the RA base so I had to stretch it over to the side in order to buckle it). If I twist the stalk, it will be buckled more at the front of the base, not at the side (basic problem is that the RA base is wider than the middle seat space). Do you think that is ok?
I know rear facing is a lot safer - its just hard to imagine that your 14 lb baby can better sustain a side impact than your 40 lb toddler, you know? But I definitely get your point!
Thanks again!
