Super last second but long story short my car is going to the shop and I will be using a 2003 Chevy Silverado (extended cab with a bench seat) for a week or so. I will be installing a FPSVD forward facing for my 41 pound dd, installed with the seatbelt. There is not a vehicle manual to be found for this truck anywhere and I am confused about the tether anchor. There is an anchor of some sort behind the head rest, but it looks flimsy. Perhaps a cargo anchor?

Anyone familiar with this vehicle?

Thank you!

That loop of webbing is indeed the tether anchor, but the loop style TAs are a little different. You route the tether through the loop behind the seat and connect to an adjacent loop (so either outboard would connect to the center and the center to either outboard).

Also, there are lower anchors for both the passenger side and center positions.

Interesting...

So outboard I would pull the tether through the fabric loop and then hook it to the metal piece behind the center seat?

(I have never installed latch before that is why I am sticking with the seat belt... I have a super solid install now... just not sure on the top tether

I'm not sure if you figured it out yet, but yes, you loop it through the webbing and hook it to the metal anchor. It is a bit of a pain in the butt.

Are you sure it's the metal anchor? In the Fords and Dodges I've read the manuals for, you hook to the adjacent webbed loop. I'm not sure about Chevy, though.

Gah - why can't they just make these things standard??? It's so confusing!

On the Chevy it is a metal anchor. My husband drives a Silverado and his is metal.

do you have any way to scan that page of the vehicle owner's manual? the info in the LATCH manual sounds like you connect to the adjacent webbing loop and I just want to make sure I have the correct info.

:yeahthat: Ours is 2004 And yes, you route the tether through the loop behind the seat and connect to an adjacent anchor.
The seatbelt will give you a solid installation, since they lock.

I can try. It will probably be tomorrow though. The truck has a webbing loop at each seating position, with a metal anchor behind it. I might be doing it wrong, but if I am, what are the metal anchors for? I'm not trying to sound difficult, just asking. Now I'm worried I have bee installing my seats all wrong. I will look as soon as I get home.

ETA: I just looked in the latch manual and it is kind of confusing. I did notice that they call the loop that you thread it through a routing loop, and say to attach it to the tether anchor loop. Maybe they mean the metal one?

I looked in my manual last night and it says to route it through the loop and attach it to the anchor point. I think that means the metal anchor.

And of course, there is no picture?

Dodge actually has a picture in their manual, and it shows using the loop, which means the LOOP is the "anchor point." :p

But from what you described, on the Chevy the metal anchor is separate from the loop, right? So that does sound like you'd use it instead.

The only picture is showing it going through the loop. I forgot to bring it to scan it. The metal anchor is seperate from the loop, so that is what I think you should use.

I agree - it does sound like you're supposed to use the metal anchor. It's just so frustrating that it's DIFFERENT from the other trucks! I can totally see someone trying to wedge the tether hook onto the metal anchor that holds the loop on a Ford or Dodge, because that's the way they did it on their Chevy!

ETA: Oh dear - I may need to write an article, complete with pictures. *sigh*
