My son just turned five and he is 43lbs and is in the 95 percentile for height (not sure on exact measurements). I am wondering what car seat would be best for him when we purchase one in September. I think he is mature enough to handle a high back booster but I'm not sure if I like the idea of that. I feel that he is less secure. Which car seats would you suggest and what type of car seat as in harness or high back booster. Thank you for your responses.

(Also, I have to buy two seats so the Frontier isn't really an option at this time)

What about the Nautilus? It's cheaper than the Frontier. The top harness slots are higher. It doesn't go as high in booster mode, but it also turns into a backless booster (does the Frontier do that??). You could try getting a high-back booster for the vehicle that he rides in less, and then the Nautilus (or Frontier) for the main vehicle.

I also think the Graco Nautilus is worth checking out. The $150 price tag is much easier to swallow.

What car seat are you currently using for your DS? Is that car seat expiring? Or has your DS outgrown it by height? If you have a car seat that still fits your DS well and it hasn't expired, I would continue using it. Otherwise, I think the Nautilus would be the top of the list to try out - esp. when you consider the price of the Frontier and the fact that you need to buy 2 of them.

I guess I should add that the other seat is for my three year old daughter, not two seats for ds.

Is your 3 year old FFing and Rfing and how much does she weigh? I think the Nautilis would still be a good seat for her if she needs a new one too (assuming she is FFing).

One of my charges is 5 years old, 46 pounds, and alittle taller then alot of his friends, so maybe the same as your son? Wejust got him a Graco Nautilus and he loves it. He told someone he wants to use that seat until he dies :-) He too is mature enough to sit right in a booster, but after I did some research, his safety obsessed mom (and orthopedic surgeon who'sseen her share of accident victims) said go for a harness!
