This is the new infant seat from Dorel that has the lock-off on the base. From what I've seen on the main carseat forum it fits small babies really well.

I expect it to be in stores within the next couple weeks - the matching stroller showed up at our store last week and I knew that the carseat was due out in a matching pattern, so checked the web & indeed it is in stock.

As for whether it's worth $169.99, I'll wait to decide that until I've seen a baby in one and installed it. ;)

It's in stock now and shipping though - it wasn't in stock last time I looked, it just had one of the date eta's on it.

We received ours yesterday at the store. Yes, it fits a 4lb-22lb infant. Seems alright, altho I haven't tried it in the stroller yet.

The adjuster on the base is quite high, guess that makes it fit in most vehicles without pool noodles/rolled up towels.

So it's rated from 4lbs in Canada? (You're maritimes IIRC?)

That just got it a boost then until the keyfit arrives. I had wondered if it would be since I knew it was rated from 4lbs in the US, but we know that seats don't always match between here and there. ;)

The front of the base in the catalog reminds me a lot of the SS1's base and the adjuster foot on it is wonderful. Do you know if the handle can be left up when in the car? (According to the manual. ;))

Yes, the front of the manual says "4-22lbs" altho, the store P.O.P. says 5lbs.

I haven't looked at the manual for the handle being up, but I will look tonight when I get there and make a post after work.

Thanks. :)

I'd only seen the catalog and online saying 5lb min and we all know those aren't always right. ;) I'm not in until Thursday, so THANKS for satisfying my curiosity before then.

Read the manual as soon as I got to work today and couldn't find either way if it CAN or CANNOT be used with the handle up.

:ROTFLMAO: TRU and Zeller's then? :p

And best of all, you have a baby to show the fit of the seats.

Now I'm going to have to stalk the forum tomorrow for an update from you. :p

Might have to be Thurs, if I'm to go to BRU and Zellers. I can leave the older kids with my parents. They are not happy being hauled around to look at carseats that they don't fit anymore. :D Then again bribing them with a visit to the TRU side might work for tomorrow :)

I have pictures of this seat. Very low harness slots and I forgot to measure but my almost 3mth old is in the bottom slots of the SS1 and is almost in the top slots of this seat.

Off to upload, she isn't buckled in because she was hungry and tired and I had no where to put her while I played and fiddled with the seat that would keep her happy but she is in it so you can sort of tell the size of the seat and the slot heights.

Jewels, can't wait to see them. It rained so badly today and I didn't feel like taking 3 kids out in the pouring rain today. Totally curious about it though :)

Okay, so I wasn't thinking and I didn't get a full shot with dd in it :o
In the first pic her shoulders are almost at the top slots and it shows where the bottom slot is. They aren't the greatest but it gives you an idea of how it fits a smaller baby. She is just at the bottom slots in the SS1 and slightly below them in the MA. Here is what I got:

http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/jewelleegeake/carseat/July080.jpg http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/jewelleegeake/carseat/July081.jpg

I was quite impressed with the base, the adjuster was quite smooth and easy to use. I was quite surprised at how light the seat felt when I lifted it.

Great photos. Ashame that it has low top harness slots though :( But then for a rf 22 lbs seat, that's probably the norm for top slots I would think.

I would guess that she has about the same amount of shell above her head as the SR. It really did seem like a decent seat.

Thanks for the pic's Jewels. :D I guess we know they use the same adjuster straps/splitter plates across seats?

How much shell did your dd have above her head? I'm wondering if the biggest draw back to this seat will be kids outgrowing it earlier than an average carrier making it not a very practical choice for kids who will be larger at birth? It doesn't look like it has a short shell, but if the top slots are low, kids at the upper end of the height range might not get a very good fit with the harness...

I went to BRU to buy something else tonight and played with the seat too. The handle reminds me a lot of the snugride in terms of shape and where you hold it. I'm guessing the weight is pretty similar to it too.

I was also amazed by the low harness height, although somewhat annoyed by how much the cover doesn't line up with the slots - very typical for what the designer 22 seats are usually like in that regard if not worse. I have to wonder if the lack of alignment could influence the adjustment of the harness on a preemie.

Things I liked:

- Some things are color coded so that when locked into place properly you see green, when not in place properly or not locked, it's red.
- The base lock-off seemed pretty easy to operate. It's a simple mechanism to open without the pressure of a seatbelt and it's one of the color coded parts so that you don't see any green when the lock-off is open, but when it's shut you only see green. Not sure how it'll be to open with the pressure of a seatbelt underneath, but just playing with it in the store it seemed nice.
- The seat easily and cleanly snaps on to the base and the release mechanism is much nicer than the designer 22 seats.
- There is a recline indicator on the side of the seat that is a bubble style. It seems like it'll be easy to get the right angle with the aid of it.
- The head and body support really seems nice and I think will give good support to even 4lb babies. Worth noting is that the head and body support can only be used with the bottom harness height and then it must be removed. This could mean that some newborns will be too tall at birth to be able to use the insert.
- I like the LATCH storage on the base, it's about time Cosco came out with proper storage for connectors on their seats. Although I did pinch my finger trying to get it to actually latch shut again.
- And it doesn't have the dumb puzzle buckle that they've been using on the designer 22 seats. I was happy to see a normal buckle. :)

I didn't read the whole manual through, just the beginning of it, and dd was with me so I was trying to be somewhat fast. Overall I think the seat will do a great job of fitting small newborns/preemies and it seems like it will be straight forward to install - of course time and experience will be the final verdict on that one. ;)

It will be interesting to see how much use parents can actually get out of it though if the top slots are as low as they seem in the pic posted earlier. OTOH, having a seat that will fit preemies well and has a 4lb min weight limit is a wonderful thing, and I think for parents bringing small babies home it's worth the trade off even if it does mean moving to a convertible a month earlier.

(Now we need more comparison pic's of babies in it. And for someone to test it in their vehicle. Tam? :p)

No problem. I thought that the shell was about the same as the SR, just guessin her but I would say 2-3". I wish I would have taken a full pic of her in it (I thought I had ). I didn't like how hard it was to see where the slots were, they didn't line up AT ALL that is why I drew the lines in on the pictures. If the seat was available at sears I would order it and try it out but it isn't. If we head into the city again i'll do a little more playing with it.

Here you can see where her head is on the seat and sort of compare it to the stock photo:
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o34/jewelleegeake/carseat/surefit-1.jpg http://trusca.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/pTRUCA1-4101297dt.jpg

Also it looks like she had still a fair bit of room till the top slots but she really didn't. She was just barely under them. She is 13lbs, 23".
