A friend of mine has a van with lap belts only (why do they let people import these darn things??!!) and her two dd's 10 and 8 ride in the back. They are very petite especially the younger one who is about the size of an average 5-6yo. She told me today she was ordering 2 LBB boosters for them, can she even use them? I was under the impression that they had to be used with a shoulder belt...?
I have in the past and again today recommended a high weight harness seat for the younger and a HBB for the older in the front seat but she won't spend the money.

Anyway, sorry to make this a long story...all I really want to know is in the title.

Thanks,

Boosters have to have lap/shoulder.

really, lapbelts shouldn't be used for anything except installing harnessed seats.

Here's a crash test comparison of a booster (lap/shoulder belt) vs lapbelt only-

A lap only belt can cause major internal damage and no one should ride in one alone. Here's a news story (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/06/earlyshow/living/ConsumerWatch/main641351.shtml) on it. For more information, google seatbelt syndrome. :(

I know about the dangers and I've tried to tell her but she doesn't want to know. My children are not allowed to ride in her vehicle.
I guess the question is pointless in a way, she'll probably do whatever she "thinks best" no matter what I say.
She said no the HWH seat for her younger dd because she wanted their seats to..... MATCH!!!!!!!

What can you do?
