Hi everyone,
Newbie here, posting from the Netherlands. Our son is 9 months old, and we're looking to upgrade his capsule to a seat, hopefully before we go on a driving holiday in September. I would really like to get a Britax Multitech rearfacing, but I can't find any sources that tell whether it would fit in our car. The one shop that did give some information on car models was only for more recent cars than ours. Seeing as we may have to drive to Sweden (1800km round trip ) to get the seat, I am anxious to make sure it will fit in our car first! As mentioned in the post header, we have a 1989 two door Saab 900. As far as I know, there are no baby seat anchor points, so it would also be helpful to know whether it's possible to get them installed.

I know this is a very specific question, but if anyone knows anything that could help us, I'd really appreciate hearing it!

Thanks in advance,
Camilla

I don't see any way the Multi Tech WOULD NOT fit in your car even though it's a bit old. The install of a MT is very similar to a Britax Hi-Way, which will fit pretty much any car. No official anchor points is no problem, the seat can be anchored in any front seat. You may even use it in the front seat by anchoring the seat according to the manual (I've enclosed English instructions).

The 900 series has changed very little throughout the years and is a fairly large car. I think the seat will fit just fine. I've installed a Hi-Way (very similar install) in about 15 different vehicles and never had a problem.

Let me know if you need more assistance. I've inclosed English install instr. and also vehicle list in English. The 900 is listed as being compatible although no model years are mentioned

Edit: The manual pdf was apparently too large for this site. You can download it here instead. (http://britax.se/pdffiler/Multi-tech2008ny.pdf) Sorry.

The Multi-Tech is car specific. But from looking at that list, youŽll have to live on another planet, if your car is not on that list LOL:)

How weird, I posted an answer here two days ago, but it's never showed up. :/

Adventuredad, I just wanted to say thank you very much for your advice! Please forgive me if I take a few days to answer things - I've got a massive freelancing job on at the moment and all my spare time is taken up with that.

My pleasure. Please let me know if you need any assistance and if you have time later on, how things turned out with the seat. Did you download the manual to take a look the manual to take a look at the install? It's very straightforward so it should fit.

I just finished reading through the instructions properly (I only glanced through them the first time), and it looks reassuringly straightforward. I was worried that we might need some anchor points installed, but it looks like the seat will go with our car just as it is, which is a relief! I'm quite excited to give it a go now, and to see our son in the seat, riding in style (and hopefully comfort too)!

On a related matter, how do people normally maintain visual contact with their kids in the back? We've got a wee little mirror to stick on the back window, but it's tiny and it isn't magnifying, so it's almost impossible to see the baby when we're sitting in the front. Also, I don't think he can see us in the mirror - it would be nice for all of us I think, if we could have eye contact! Are there better mirrors, or another system? I haven't seen anything except the tiny mirrors here (admittedly I also haven't looked terribly hard just yet...).

Any suggestions gratefully received!

ps thanks to the mods for heads-up regarding the forum policy!

I used a fairly "large" mirror for a while which was padded and also securely fastened in the back of the rear seat. It was not glass and it would have gone nowhere in a crash so it felt secure. It gave me a nice look of how the little one was doing back there and he could see me in the front as well, plus some of the sights as well. Can't remember the brand but I'm sure there are plenty available in different stores.

REgarding the MT and most of the Swedish seats. They are easy to install and can be anchored in virtually any car. The install take s a few minutes longer than a regular ff seat but that never bothered me despite using it in many different cars.

Hello again, and sorry for the long silence! I just wanted to say, after a few false starts trying to work out how to order things on Swedish websites, I got in touch with Britax directly and they gave me a company to contact. I've since been in touch with them and ordered a Britax Multi-tech Benno, which (hopefully) should be here in a couple of weeks' time. Thanks to the manual you linked to, I feel quite confident that we can install the seat in our car when it gets here, so thank you very much for that! And thanks for all the rest too.

I'll come back to report in when we've got the seat installed and our son's had a chance to try it out! We are really hopeful that it will be nice for him (in any case, a lot nicer than his baby capsule!).

Glad to hear things worked out nicely. The MT is a great seat, your son will be able to ride rear facing until he starts university. Ok, maybe not quite that long....

Please let us know how you like the seat as you start using it.
