When switchung to the secind slot on the ss1 do you have to use the larger baby straps? And when swictching to the larger staps mode do you have to swicth bot hip and at the latch plate?

Just use the back settings that fit your baby best (and make it easiest to get the baby in and out, too), there's no requirements about when to use which settings.
