I read on another website that it is safer to use the carseat with the base than to use it without the base? Why is it, or is that true? My infant seat I just read that the base has a recall on it, and I was just gonna use the seat without the base until I get another convertible, which its only the extra seat. Its a baby trend, so you can use it without the base. I think I get one thing solved and another thing turns up.

Well, one reason is just because of the constant uninstall/install. They is a greater possibility of doing it wrong once.

The recall states:
Incorrect steel used on the latch connector can crack and allow the child seat base to detach from the vehicle's latch anchors during a severe crash. Contact mfg. for a replacement base. Install with vehicle seat belt until base is replaced.

So I would just install it with the vehicle belt, and not latch.

But if you can install the seat properly every single time without the base? It's absolutely safe. :) (I'd do what Judi said...install it with the seatbelt for convenience).

Oh ok. I dont use the latch, b/c I dont have it in the middle of my car. I use the seatbelt any way. And yes that does make sense about install/uninstall. Thanks!
