View Full Version : RA vs. MA slot heights?

I'm pretty sure I will be replacing my RA with a MA in the next couple of days, in order to RF DS longer. Right now we are using the middle slot on the RA. Does anyone have any idea what slot height we will likely use on the MA?

The reason I am asking is that I am buying the seat in another city and so I won't have DS with me when I get the seat and when I get help getting it installed (I'm paranoid about doing it wrong, so was planning to put it in with the help of a tech who works at the store). I realize I will have to reinstall the seat if the slot height is not correct, but I was wondering if there is any way to estimate which slot we would most likely use?

Thanks for your help . . . .

I'd guess the second slot from the bottom for RF, but it's completely a guess. FWIW, when the seat is RF, you can move the harness up or down a slot even when it's installed - you have access to the back of the seat. It's only a problem with a FF seat.

Also, please make sure that the tech teaches you how to install the seat. Both the RA and the MA are relatively easy seats to install and you definitely want to be able to replicate the install yourself. I never install seats for parents, I show them how to do it and make sure that they can replicate it before they leave.

I have both seats and my dd is on the first slot on both. I can't measure it cause my MA is not around today, but I was under the impression the first 3 slots r the same height and the MA just adds one on top. Cause even though the RA is smaller, the lowest slot is still a bit high and not good for newborns...

According to carseatdata.org:

RA: 10", 12.5", 15.5"
MA: 10", 13.5", 15.75", 17.5"

Although in real life the top slots of the MA really only measure around 17", so it's possible top of the RA may be more like 15" in actual use as well.
