Is there any recommendations for using a car seat in a stroller? I understand that the seat back angle would be critical in a car due to the safety requirement during a collision, but what angle should the seat back be at if it is installed on a stroller (with the appropriate adapter)?

For the most part, the specific stroller has some sort of "mechanism" that determines the appropriate angle.

What type of stroller are you using? and carseat?

I would assume by your name you are using a BOB. I LOVE my bob. But I did try my infant seat in the stroller itself and it really doesn't work well. Plus if you have another child the older child could lean on the infant seat and pull it out of the stroller. I have a double and I will bite the bullet one day and get one I think. I forget the age but they aren't supposed to be in the stroller by themselves for a couple months I think it was. The angle isn't right for a newborn. So I would get the adapter if I were you.

Ditto Starlight. The carseat should be approved for use for that particular stroller. If so, then the carseat will sit at the appropriate angle in the stroller. You should never use a carseat in a stroller that wasn't designed to hold a carseat, or has not approved that particular brand of carseat for use.

As a general recommendation to parents I always error on the side of taking the child out of the carseat and placing them either in a sling (baby wearing type device, or something similar) or laying them flat in the stroller(assuming the strollers manual says the childs age is ok, and the stroller reclines somewhat flat if not all the way flat.)

ITA... most kids spend way too much time in the carseat now days, when they dont' have to. :twocents:

I am using a BOB Revolution Stroller. I have the adapter and it seems to work great. Just was curious if there was a recommendation for the seat back angle so that I could double check it. Any recommendations?

I would have to agree with that. Sling the baby is so much easier. :twocents:

Shouldn't there be a recommended angle though? What seat back angle is safest for infants?

The seat angle is important to make sure the baby has his or her head back so that their airway is open...so it should be mimicing the correct angle in the car. It stays at the correct angle when placed on the floor as well when you barace it with the handle in stationary position...

And you can also put the baby in a stroller w/o using the carseat. Amazingly I ran into several new parents thinking that they had to use the carseat (in the travel system) and they were terrified of using the stroller by itself thinking that it would be unsafe (otherwise why would there be so many travel systems).

Most strollers have recline positions recommended for certain ages (ie. newborn is flat or thereabout, 6 mos or older the recline is not necessary flat and can be more upright, etc.).

Understandably when running a bunch of short errants, putting a sleeping infant in a carseat onto the carseat adaptor is convenient. I do prefer that when out and about for long walks or errants, then stroller w/o carseat is better. These days, I sling my baby more than I use a stroller. I'm much more mobile wearing my dd. I now get irritated when I have to stand around waiting for the crowd to be courteous and make room for my stroller and baby) :)

you can't in the BOB. I am only ASSUMING the OP has the BOB though. Cause of the screen name. I think the baby has to be 6 months or something. I don;t have my instructions here though

BOB, recommends the child be at least 8 WEEKS before they are placed in the stroller 'seat', and no jogging or off-road use until the baby is at least 8 MONTHS old.

Of course, every child is different, and some may have health issues where the 8mths is too soon. In that case I would double check with your doctor before doing any off road or jogging.
