We had decided on a Radian due to DH's vehicle but now he is in the process of purchasing a new truck. He will be getting a 4 dr. truck so hopefully I won't have as much of a compatablility issue as we do w/ his current ext. cab.
DD just turned 4 and is just under 30lbs and about 38 1/2 inches. I would like to keep her in a 5 pt. restraint, so we have briefly looked at the nautilus, radian, frontier, and recaro. My question is, can my DD still have some recline in her seat so she is not completely upright, or is that not an option once they are older? The seats in the truck are very upright so can I adjust the booster to give it some recline (ie., pull the base out so the back isn't as flush to the back of the seat?). I hate to see her have a head bob when she falls asleep so I would love a little booster seat induced recline if that is still possible.

When you say "booster" are you talking about a booster seat (no 5 point harness, just a seat belt) or a forward facing 5 point harness seat?

Which Recaro did you look at?

Of the ones you picked, the Frontier and Recaro Young Sport will have the best recline and sleep support, the Radian will be the worst...there's a tiny recline foot on it, but it's not really good for making it a cozy reclined seat. In a couple years when she's too big for the harness (of any seat), it'll still be pretty upright, but she won't sleep as much, and she'll be old enough to learn how to rest her head in the big supportive headwing of to sleep if she wants to

we are looking at the FF 5 pt. harness seat for an older child. We have a MA in my veh. and she has plenty of room in that. We looked (online) at the Recaro young sport, it looks nice but the head wings look so odd (as they do on the Frontier), I guess its somehting we would get used to. Do the headwings bother kids side to side vision at all?

My girls love them. They use them as pillows. Some kids do lean forward a bit to see around them but in a harness they're still protected.
