I have a 2002 tahoe that doesn't have a 3rd seat factory installed. Is it structurally safe to install one now? The dealer says they won't do it. Does anyone know why?

Manufacturers generally do not want the liability with adding things like new seats.

Personally, I would be very reluctant to put a passenger in an aftermarket seat. I'd also be reluctant to put a passenger in any 3rd row seat that is extremely close to the rear hatch. That eliminates almost everything except extended wheelbase minivans, Suburbans, Excursions and a very few others.
