I would very much like to get a fronteir for Benjamin but I"m worried with the thin straps and no velcro it will be harder for him to buckle himself in. He started buckling himself in a few months ago.

My dd does it no problem at all.

We are working on it, but Avi couldn't do it in the Regent either. So far he can get the harness clipped and then I stretch back and buckle the bottom. Next week I am going to start having him try to do the bottom, with close supervision of course. The only problem with the chest clip is that when he is going really fast it twists the straps, so then I need to unbuckle it, untwist them and let him try again. I know your DS is 4, is he on the older range or did he just turn 4? Avi will be 4 in October, and I know with that age range a few months can mean huge leaps/bounds with fine motor coordination .

my 3.5 yo dd just started doing the chest clip, but I do the crotch buckle. She never tried it in her old seat, so I don't know if the Frontier is easier, or if she is just getting to this stage where she wants to do it on her own.

Conner can buckle himself in any seat, but I usually always do it anyways just to make sure the straps don't twist. Also, I usually always loosen the straps before getting him out or if he gets himself out I usually loosen them before he gets back in since I find it easier to buckle that way, and then I have to pull the harness adjuster to tighten it.

Yep, that is what Benjamin does in his marathon too. It never occured to me to try that but that is how my SIL was able to get my neice to buckle herself in her marathon.
