I just moved Ian's Regent to the 3rd row of my Pilot for our trip to Florida. I did it so the older kids would be able to sit in the 2nd row and have more leg room since they have gotten so tall recently.
I have never installed any of his seats back there before. It gives me a kinda funny feeling about having him that far back and so close to the hatchback.
Someone ease my feelings about this. I know he's safe with the shell of the Regent around him and the side airbags. I just need more opinions.

Remember that a carseat's shell isn't really designed to withstand crash forces. Really, it's a just comfy container for the harness, which is the real protection. Of course, the shell does offer a bit more protection than nothing at all, but we can't fool ourselves - if you get in a crash that's bad enough that it collapses the vehicle frame, the carseat's not going to stop much, either.

Vehicles are designed to minimize intrusion into the passenger areas, and that includes the back. More room between the point of impact and where you're seated is always a bonus, of course, but really there's only so much we can do. Keep in mind that high-impact rear-crashes are rare.

I've got two kids in the 3rd row of our car, with just a few inches between their heads and the hatchback. When I see a huge truck in my rear-view mirror, it does make me nervous! All I can do is remind myself that the people who make the car have done their best to give us the most chance they can.

When you have a lot of passengers to seat you have to consider everything...including being able to get to the third row :-).
Sounds like you have done what works and everyone is safely restrained...that's the important thing. Enjoy your trip!

where did you install the regant in the 3rd row? I know I could not put it on the single seat. I had to put it on the double seat. Also My daughter who is 4yr could not put her legs down while in her regant in the 3rd row unless you move the second seat up. I have had my 20mo old back there befor in her britax wizard. I know that feeling you are talking about. Your child is waaaay back there. She did not seem to mind and we did have grammy riding in the second row. So she was not all alone. Good luck with your trip

It's on the driver side 3rd row. The seatbelt was weird on the single split seat so I couldn't get a good install there.
I did have to slide the 2nd row seat forward to allow him leg room. But, even so, the older kids will have more leg room in the 2nd row slid forward than the 3rd.
This, of course, won't be our day to day setup. It's just for our long trip to Florida.
