that the headrest cannot cover the harness slots?

I finally convinced my friend to ditch her hand me down/expired seat and get a Nautilus.

She called me tonight as she was getting ready to install the seat in her car with this question.

She says she likes the way the headrest "looks" better one click lower than it should be. Therefore slightly covering the harness slots (her child is in the second to highest slots now )

I remember reading here that it is a no no to have the headrest that way. I told her that.

She called me out and said there was nothing in the manual stating that.

It' s been a while since I returned my NA, so I downloaded the manual from Graco's website.

You know what? I can't find that info anywhere!

All I can find is that "when adjusting the headrest, the red belt guides must be at or above the shoulders"

Where is it written that the headrest can't cover the harness slots???

Thanks!!

If it's down covering the harness slots (like, the actual slots where the harness the child is using?), then wouldn't it add slack in the harness by pushing it down before it then went back up and over the child's shoulders?

I thought the same thing when I first played with the Nautilus. However, once I put a few kids in to see the fit, it was clear the headrest had to be higher. I think the visual "trick" is that the middle back of the headrest is not straight across like the blvd. or turbo, but has a bit of a curve.

If the red slots are at/above the child's shoulders, the headrest has to be up a tad bit higher to lock into place.

The other key info is CPS standard operating procedure: nothing can interfer with movement of the harness. If the headrest is touching or covering the harness slots, there's no way it can not be interferring with the harness (unless the harness is set too tall for the child).

Have her call Graco.

When we were debating the "at or above the shoulders" wording someone called and was told that the headrest could NOT cover the harness straps, and the at or above was for booster mode.
