They're located behind the front seats. There's one on each side. I couldn't find their purpose in the manual, but I'm guessing they're hooks for the soft cargo cover or something.

or maybe it's a Swedish car. ;) Volvos often do have rf TAs.

Why didn't the manual say they were then, in the LATCH section, or somewhere? :( The car was bought in Germany, fwiw.

I'm not sure why it isn't specified.
Although, I have read that Volvo doesn't approve of the US style rf tether (even though we call it Swedish method). They have a system called WHIPS where the front headrest actually gives a couple of inches on rear impact to prevent whiplash. Apparently US style rf tethers can interfere with that but Swedish rf tethers don't because they come from much lower on the seat. Personally, I think that shell will likely intefere as much as anything and their manuals don't specifically say anything about not using the rf tether. I'd still rf tether (and use that hook to do it), but be sure not to brace the top of the shell.
Here's a google search (http://www.google.com/search?q=volvo+rf+tether+whips+site%3Acar-seat.org&rls=com.microsoft:en-us&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1) with some interesting threads where it was discussed.
if that doesn't work, just plug volvo rf tether whips into the google search bar at the top. :)
