I have heard you can use a britex chest clip on a radian.. I hear they hold the straps straighter, (I have a little trouble getting the straps straight with the radian clips.. also my kids complain that they dig.... The CPST yesterday (The good one) said that britex chest clips tested marginally better when I asked him about it..

has anyone tried the britex clip on their radians? how do they work, do the straps stay straighter, and are your kids comfier?

Yes, we have a Britax (though that's actually a common clip to other high-end seats, Britax is just the most common) chest clip on our Radian, and it's really wonderful. It doesn't matter so much for younger kids, but my 7 yo used to ride in the Radian and be *crying* because the chest clip held the harness so close to her neck it was like sandpaper :(...the Britax clip holds the harness farther apart so it doesn't scrape on big kid's necks so much. I put a bunch of clips on a Scenera just for fun, look at the difference between those two! http://picasaweb.google.com/joolstag/HoudiniSCarseat/photo#5121718254032190754

so are they only tested with britex brand? or other brands too? cause I have a couple of sceneras and an apex 65 that if ok I could just take the clips from and use.. but I wouldnt do it unless they are safety tested.. my kids much prefire the chest clips from those seats, but I cant fit two sceneras and an apex 65 in my passat lol

As far as I know, the seat was only tested with the two clips (the one it comes with and the IMMI "Britax" clip). I wouldn't put a Cosco clip on the Radian.

No. It was tested with the one that 'looks like' the roundish Britax one. Not with the Cosco ones. Sorry if I was confusing! (just trying to point out that the one that looks like the roundish Britax one is also on Combis and Safeguard seats and several other nicer brands).

ok good.. I might look into buying britex chest clips for them.

Is it a certain make of britex chest clips, like marathon or round about or whatever or are they all the same?

They are all the same. There is the old rectangular style (which I don't think you can buy anymore and the new style, which is rounder).

digging this old thread up.. I actually spoke with a woman from britax and a woman from radian.. both said Absolutly not, they are not crash tested with britax chest clips and scolded me for even thinking of using "aftermarket products" with their car seats.. I was like "I know I know I would never use aftermarket products.. I just heard they had been crash tested ect"

So my girls are suffering with radian chest clips still lol

my son is actually in a marathon right now and his radian is installed in the passat atm.. (which we rarely drive.)

Sunshine Kids has recently changed the clip on the Radian to be more like the IMMI clip referenced above, holding the straps a bit farther apart. I don't know if you can get it yet as a replacement part from Sunshine Kids, but it's worth a phone call.

Ok, just to clarify, the Radian seats were absolutely tested with IMMI chestclips (not Britax. IMMI is the company that makes those clips). In fact, if you look at your manual, you'll see the picture on the front shows the seat WITH the IMMI clip.

Some of us who have had Radians for a long time originally got 'permission' to substitute out the old style Radian clips with IMMI-style clips. I have the letter printed and saved :) The newer Radians have different clips and it's no longer an issue.

CS reps often give bad information and don't know what they are talking about, as evidence by you being told the Radian was never tested with an IMMI clip, which is patently false.
