We have a MA and a RA. The MA manual specifically says they should no longer be RF when their head is 1" from the top of the seat. The RA manual doesn't say that...the only head height guideline is that the child's ears should not be above the back of the seat...which sounds like a FF guideline to me.

Does the RA have a higher head height limit than the MA, or am I misinterpreting or missing something in the manual?

I have a tall DD and will use the shoulder straps as a guide as well, but I am surprised by how high her head is getting on her RA.

The RA has the one inch of shell rule too :) You are right, the "ears above the back of the seat" if a FF rule.

Britax has been a bit unclear on the RA rf height limit. At one point it was the same as ff- ears even with the top of the shell. Then they left rf limit out of the manual, but would say top of head even with the top of the shell if you called and asked. The newest version of the manual (http://www.britaxusa.com/uploads/products/user-guides/18.pdf) clearly states the 1" rule. They're moving to that on all of their rf seats.
