This question is just out of curiosity.
I know a convertable can be installed more upright for an older baby/toddler. And I've read on this board that that is actually safer.
So, two questions.
#1..Why is it safer.
#2..can an infant bucket style seat also be installed more upright for an older baby/toddler. For example, If I would have owned a SS1, Jordan would have fit in it until he was 2 1/2 years old. Could that be installed more uprgiht?

It is considered safer because when in a frontal collision, the pull is towards the front of the car. In a higher angled seat the pressure would be put more on the shoulders where the straps are holding the child in due to the angle of the seat which tilts more towards the front of the car. In a more upright seat the force is spread out more over the back and the shoulders
Does that make sense? In my head I can see a good picture of it, but trying to explain it is harder . :p
I dont know the answer to your second question. I would suggest you go to your manual and see what it says. I would venture a guess that it might not be okay because the base of the infant seat is designed to sit on the seat a certain way and angle the child specifically. Thats my guess on that.

I have been wondering this also. On my grandson's Baby Trend Bucket there are several settings on the base to adjust the recline. I don't have the manual now but wonder if they can be more upright as he gets older. I'll listen for a tech.

More upright is safer because more of the crash force is absorbed by the seat.
Yes, you can use the SS1 more upright for older babies or toddlers. The manual says you have to have the angle guide with in the appropriate zone, but it's a pretty wide range that's still acceptable. You might not be able to get as upright as 30 degrees, but maybe 35-40. You can likely do the same with some other infant seats as well. It depends on the seat and whether the manual says it must be at 45 degrees.
